Hello everyone. First time builder looking for ocing tips.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Like the title says i'm looking for some tips, and info on how to oc safely. This is my first build, and everything is running well at stock speeds. I'm looking to get a little more out of it though. Can i get some experienced members input, or a link to a good guid on the subject. A list of programs to help ensure stability would be great too.

CPU-AMD Fx 6100

Motherboard-Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3

Graphics-Asus HD 6670

RAM-Patriot viper ddr3

Hard Drive- 1TB WD caviar black + recycled 320GB WD caviar black(from old dell)

Optical Drive-Sony Optiarc bdrw + recycled dvdrw(from old dell)

Cooling-Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo(2 fan set up), x2 250mm case fans, 120mm exahust fan.

Also on a side note. Its not really a big issue, but some times when loading a program, starting a song, or video i'll get a bit of a crackle from my speakers i've check all connections, and drivers for my audio, and cant find anything that seems to be wrong with them. I'm using the onboard audio. Seems others have been having this problem with giabyte mobos as well. Has anyone found a cure for this?

First thing, I need a list of all of your hardware and cooling options.

Also, make sure go into the rig builder in the upper right corner of the page and enter all of your hardware there.

Shad686 if you go to your profile (Click your name in bold at top right hand side of screen) And then scroll to your signature and click edit. Then in the boxes where it says 'Show off your stuff' click on one of them and select your system name.

Okay. Nice build you got going there.

With AMD you are getting out of my realm of knowledge. I would look in the threads. I am sure there is a OC thread for the CPU in the AMD channel.

Sounds like you are really new to OC. Before you do anything, make sure you read all available data and understand what you will be manipulating when performing an OC.

This might be a good place to start asking questions,

Good luck. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Also, whenever people give you good tips and info, make sure to leave them rep. Helps them out for helping you out.

Actually that link looks like it will help alot. Thanks for that. I'm still just gettin use to theses forums might take a little while, but i'll get to know them.

I can tell this is just the begining for me. I'm already making plans for future builds, and thinking of what else to add to the current system (when I have the money to spare).

How long did it take to get that monster of a rig you got going?

LOL. How long did it take me to get it to the way I almost want it is the better question. Look in my build log. It has gone through 3 or 4 different phases. Been working on it for months.

I can not lie though. The people here have helped allot and it is a ton of fun.

For GPU Overclocking, I think I saw somewhere the 6670 at around 940 MHz, but I wouldn't say go straight there.
Download MSi Afterburner (works on non-MSi cards): http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm then go into it's settings and unlock the voltage control (so you can control how much voltage to pump through your card-this is important for a stable OC)

Up the Core MHz in steps of 10, leaving the Shader Clock to automatically adjust. Leave the Memory clock, as that will not usually net you more than a couple of extra FPS.

To test if the overclock is stable, download the free version of 3DMark 11: http://www.3dmark.com/3dmark11/download/ and run the standard benchmark. If the card gets through it, then you can go higher. If the Drivers Crash, check to make sure the card isn't overheating, or up the voltage a bit. Keep doing this to find your highest stable clock speed thumb.gif

If it just keeps overheating after a while, you could untick the Auto button in Afterburner, and drag the fan speed up to 100% biggrin.gif oh and to apply your clock speed/fan changes etc you press Apply at the bottom sorry of that seems overly condescending, just once I had someone who said it wsn't OCing, but didn't press that button... rolleyes.gif

Oh and congrats on your new build, and good luck!

Thanks. I'll check those programs out when i'm ready to start work on the gpu. Right now I'd like to get my cpu to around 4 gigs. I think I'll be able to pull that off with the ammount of air flow going threw this thing. Any tips for a cpu oc?
