The i7 3960 is newer tech. 990x is better though, i think. If you are spending that money (1000+ on a cpu) do this.

The stuff I listed will def be able to help you with video editing. Make sure you have a decent video card as well.

I have a GTX 590 4 piece and DDR3 24GB G1 killer 6kit, two Odin Pro 1200W..
just buy a motherboard and CPU

You can check out other X79 boards. The 3960x is newer, faster and runs cooler than the 990x

Are you stuck on the gigabyte? There are other really good boards out there. I will suggest a few.
