For example, going by the specs of a branded 40mm fan: http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/023/sy124020l_detail.html
It seems that it can in fact be quiet and RPM kept down especially when there are so many fans present in the first place.

Except we are talking about a very dense heatsink. It could be that Gigabyte choose to keep the RPM low, just like how reference cooler spins very slow. In that case however, you have a very warm GPU. 40 mm fans are usually used in on bunch of servers which will be put into a sound proof room.

Gigabyte quoted a new statement:
Quote:
Fans so small, haters wanna fine me.

There is NO DOUBT these fans will be loud compared to single GPU setups with large 92mm fans (also dudes who hate on after-market coolers, DC2 is SOO QUIET while the twinfrozr 3 has the BEST components you can find with 80mm/100mm fans not 92mm The clones are gigabytes windforce two versions, sapphire/xfx/EVGA(I SAID IT)/powercolor and all of the above.

These companies all have their own custom pcbs but they just use cheaper (for them) components half the time, or they charge a REALLY HIGH premium (devel cards/twin frozr etc).

Also this thing looks SOO GHETTO as said above, it's a USP!

I do hope it cools REALLY well to silence the haters though biggrin.gif.

Also guys, 40mm fans are VERY QUIET until about 2800rpm on their own, look at your northbridges and read their fan speeds.

40mm fans, being smaller can spin ridiculously up till 8000+ rpm and those are peoples impressions of them.

Also note the smaller the fan the higher the pressure/flow ratio is which means DENSE HEAT-SINKS can be used effectively, not the wide gigabyte standard sinks.

Note the hot air should be directly exhausted out?

This think is aimed at having the functionality of a reference cooler (NO EXTRA AIR CIRCULATING IN THE CASE), will work if you have a side fan EXHAUST, with CUSTOM HEATSINK LIKE COOLING (will rival twinfrozr/DC2 heatsinks), with decent sound quality around that or less than that of a reference cooler.

Honestly I bet this thing performs really well. It's ugly but for the right case setup this is probabally the best air cooling solution for SLI. Blows straight out the side mesh and no hot air touches the second card.

For the right person I have a feeling this might be the coolest 680 out there

I dont care what it looks like I care about how high the FPS counter is in my games. I dont stare at my tower while doing stuff on my computer I stare at my monitor. So if it performs better than stock and doesnt sound like a jet turbine...its fine by me.

Well I stare at my tower and look at the monitor sometimes. To each his own.

Card is ugly btw.

That's either a tiny girl, or one massive cooler. I hope for Gigabyte's sake that this thing performs better than it looks. It's not like the 680 gets particularly hot anyway.
