Is amd good?

Thread Starter
I am building an eyefinity gaming rig on the cheap. I was thinking of using my 6870 but i was told to sell that and get a 6970 (in interested let me know). My question: will a 960 be a good enough cpu to run bf3 on med?

You should be fine, I have the same CPU with HD6850 in crossfire.
I'm able to run high-ultra @1080p around 40-60 FPS

with a 960 and a 6970 you'll be on high settings with AA off.

AA smoothes jagged edges from distant objects. But MSAA greatly reduces your fps, especially on AMD cards. Without MSAA you'll probably be fine with your 6870.
If you still want to upgrade then i would recommend the 7850 over the 6970.

Get a 6970 due to the 2gb vram for eyefinity res

You should be able to run it on medium, high runs at like 30fps for me with a 6950 at eyefinity res

Depends what fps your comfortable with really

so, pretty much you are starting from scratch. if you really want to go amd i recommend what HybLeaf has in his sig but stick with your 6870. try that out before upgrading to a higher gpu.

here are my 3D marks with the 960T unlocked @ 4ghZ (achievable with the 212+) . . .

if in case you give intel some thought, wait till ivy is released and the 2500K and 2600K chips' prices might go further down.
