GTX670 DCII is 2-slot so it boggles me as to why Asus felt the 680 had to be a triple-slot for what is essentially the same chip. See here:

I think it has almost nothing to do with cooling and more to do with making an impression with size, Asus are keeping the triple-slot elephant design just for namesake. "Look at meeee!" it screams, "I perform huge AND I'm big enough to beat goats to death with!" Sadly I think Asus will continue this trend with all flagship GPU's.
My 580 DCII is the last brick-sized card I'll ever own, it's all minimalist (or waterblocks) from here on.
