But 7 Million transistors is 2*3.5 Million from the GK104, no way the GK110 just "happened" to have the same transistor count

There is no way NV is going to demo a 690 equipped gimped GK104 chips at a conference mainly about GPGPU and compute. There is also no way NV would call the 690 a single GPU, especially a new single GPU.

I have a feeling that nVidia's gonna be a turd and only release GK110 in their workstation line just to differentiate between gaming and compute even more, kind of like how Intel only released the 8 core Sandy Bridge as a Xeon. That would be another year of wasted waiting time, just like Bulldozer, because I couldn't bring myself to drop a grand for a graphics card. Need F@H optimizations for GCN!

If you're trying to calculate the lifespan of a product, you use the launch of the new product for the end date so (GTX 480 [March 2010] - GTX 680 [March 2012]) That's two years before it was replaced.

That would be really disappointing but I'm pretty sure that they'll at least have chips that are too leaky for teslas etc. that'll do well enough in GeForce products smile.gif

Anybody else wonder what will happen when AMD reaches the 9990 and Nvidia reaches 990?

OT: I think this will be the dual-gpu 680, then again they don't have as big of a lead as Intel does against AMD, so why do they want to already compete with their own products? thinking.gif

...again, this is at a GPU Compute conference.

NVIDIA is trailing behind AMD in raw GPGPU performance BUT currently has more marketshare with CUDA.
Once again...

Yeah I know. They may be trailing behind in GPGPU performance but I still like to think highly of them so I don't feel guilty and try and sell of my card again and try and buy a better one. (Impulse HW buyer)

Your rig says otherwise. $300-400 is not much just for GPU money. Even the worst summer job can get u $1K.

Worst summer job will get you at least 3-4k for 2 months. I had a job 11$/hour after 40h of work salary double (11*40 + 22 * X) after 50h of work I was working @ 44$/h eek.gif Made 3k a single month with a bad/boring job I quit because 50+h per week is... a lot
