Did I get lemon 7970's?

Thread Starter
I was running my cards at 1250 core/1700 mem (1.25 volts on the core and 1.7 on the memory)when it crashed in crysis 2(bf3 ran great). I fired up OCCT to test my cards.

I am getting artifacts in OCCT v 3.1 at 1150 core/ 1500 memory.At 1125 core I get zero artifacts.Temps are not an issue either.wth.gif

I have yet to see any watercooled 7970's below 1200 mhz.Almost all of them are between 1200-1300 mhz.

Am I doing something wrong?

use unigine for stability. i am totally stable 1200/1600 1,174 volt in air. crysis and bf3 dont like core to be more than 1200.instant crash for me too

How long should I run unigine for?I pass the benchmark easily, should I just let it run for a couple of hours?

I'd say average 7970 OC overvolted is between 1150 and 1300 so if your somewhere in there your doing pretty good. 1250 + is rather high although a lot of people do make it there.

Heaven isn't the best for max stability testing, but its good eye candy and fun for benching epeen runs. Crysis/BF3/Metro will tax the system more and what you find as stable in Heaven is insta lock in those games.

Overclock one thing at a time. For ex. find your gpu max, then drop it down a notch or two. Then find your mem max, drop that down a notch or two.

Does 50Mhz realy matter ? in all honesty .. thats probably 2-3FPS

every card is different , dont expect a specific OC bcos nobody not even AMD can control this its just ur luck .

For e.g iv seen i7 870's all over the place @ 4.4Ghz 1.3v , i can top 4.3 @ 1.46v .. All chips are different unfortunatly , if they werent weres the fun in that ?

Heaven is not the best program for stability , i would personally use bf3 conquest 64 players and play for an hour + to determine whether clocks are stable or not i wouldnt go as far as OCCT it could cause damage even though they will throttle its not something i would do with 2 brand new 7970's , your getting artifacts already thats not good for the card just leave it what u have it set on atm ..
