They would never put shop item power ups in dota.
My guess is that they may allow you to customize your heroes appearances for a fee or give you some annoying announcements when you get killstreaks like the way it's done in hon.

I am a bit surprised that they chose free to play rather than having dota 2 cost $30 or so. Considering the player base of dota, they would've made a killing.

I'd hate it if they will charge to play some heroes. That's why I don't bother playing HoN or LoL.

It'd be silly to do that since certain heroes are great counters to others. Be bad for competitive reasons.

Because that's exactly what $2 did with Heroes of Newerth, and that ended up going free to play because they couldn't keep updates and support for the game going without an income.

Innovation is nice to see, i applaud it. I don't know what their final vision will look like. To me it sounds like they want to foster a competitive community which is helpful and respectful by rewarding such actions. On the surface that seems harmless to me, but we will have to wait and see what implementation this is given.
