It happens all the time on LAN's though. I take it you've never actually been to a big tournament?

I used to compete quite actively in tournaments in within the FGC throughout college; a community which is arguably one of the most toxic around. Even there it was the exception NOT the rule for sportsman-like conduct between opponents. crap talk can happen, but nothing even close to what these raging children heap upon new people in the dota community. It sounds as if you are trying to characterize these outbursts as the complete norm when you know damn well it most certainly not the case for professional gamers to treat each other the way people do in pubs. They are "infamous" for that very reason.

I can't speak for the DOTA community, but this stuff happens all the time in your competitive FPS e-Sport titles. 1.6, Source, CoD when it was played at CPL and WSVG.

You went to a more local tournament, thus a lot less happens there to be honest. I've gone to too many local LAN's and large LAN's like WSVG, its a day and night difference at these events. Even MPCON hosted at the University of Michigan has had some issues like straight out brawls during events after people were trash talking. This has happened the last three consecutive years that I've gone.

Norm? Probably not, but it happens at every large event I've gone to the last 6 years now.

No, by tournaments I do not mean a get together with a couple of friends in a dorm room. I've traveled to and competed in many statewide tournaments throughout the midwest. I've even been to EVO a few times as well.

This seems odd because I was only ever talking about the Dota community and its respected pro players.

In the podcast interview, Gaben also said that some employees and him are working on Linux.

What could that mean? Steam for Linux?

In my short time playing HoN, I just want to say screw the community.

My experiences playing that game makes me to never want to play a dota type game ever again. I have never met such a community of bastards. I literally raged quit from playing the entire game because of just how rude people were.

Why the hell should I continue playing and get better if no matter what the hell I do there is always someone badmouthing me. Like seriously screw that.mad.gif

I'll stick to Starcraft, a large, nice, and helpful community. thumb.gif

**** Dota games.

Nerds are anti-social and they seem to congregate in Dota type of games. Nerds have never played cooperative team sports or group projects in their lives so that is why they tend to cooperate poorly with other human beings.

Why Dota games though? Why don't other large online games have this issue?

I have played a lot of Starcraft 2, never once ran into an issue with someone being an *******. Can't get through a minute in a dota game without someone being an *******.

And it seems consistent across all Dota type games, with HoN being the worse and LoL not as bad. I just don't get it.
