Effects of underclocking RAM? (I5 750 OC)

Thread Starter
I've been following an I5 minor overclocking guide posted here and recently decided to increase the clock from 3.2 gHz to 3.6 gHz. The first time I got a few immediate boot failures and researched to find out thats usuallly RAM settings- I was trying to clock my 1333 RAM to 1600mHz. I had to play with a multiplier to get the RAM to clock at 1200 and that was as close as I could get to the 'natual' clock. I've heard the jump in performance going from 1333 RAM to 1600 is practiclly unnoticable so how bad is a performance hit is it to underclock RAM because of unspecific multipliers? (Gigabyte's MIT only had a 6,8 and 10 multiplier if I remember right). Underclocking RAM doesn't 'defeat' a CPU overclock does it? CPU-Z showed the clock properly at 3.6 gHz.

Running Prime95 however, Core 3 immediately failed every time due to a rounding error which I've read is often a RAM issue. Could finding a multiplier that clocks my RAM at exactly 1333mHz fix this? The RAM is Crucial.

i am not sure how much difference you get by underclocking the ram. but i would say you need to know OC from 3.2 to 3.6 at once is a big jump, i would advise going step by step and knowing where your limit is before increasing vcore/vtt or even changing ram speeds. your ram might be fine but maybe your CPU needs some + in vcore (forgot to mention you Did go from a stock 2.66 clock to 3.2 or 3.6) thats alot of OC and i would recommend checking not just ram but also voltages.
