Your reviews show only a stock 7970, clearly you didn't apply any sort of reading comprehension to what I posted earlier. Obviously with both at stock the 680 is a much better card.
Whatever though. Just enjoy your 680, I think they're both great cards. I've owned both and they're both good cards. No point in bickering about it. You're happy with what you have, go enjoy it.

Yes but you just proved me right. The 7970 in that chart is overclocked more than the 680 but the 680 is still doing better. Not sure why you're trying to prove me wrong by posting something that proves me right. rolleyes.gif

Now are they pretty much equal in most other games? Sure.

Neither card is at max overclock and it's only three games. Metro and Crysis for example run way better on the 7970 especially once overclocked. You take ten games and a 7970 and 680 both at 1300mhz and I gurantee you the results are about even. 680 ships 150mhz higher then the 7970 and is only 5-10% faster at stock. It's only logical that with the same headroom the cards are about even.

But obviously you and logic don't get along very well. Enjoy your card.

Are you reading what I'm typing? I'm talking about BF3. I already said most other games were even.

Don't even try argue with them eternal, even they know the 680 owns the 7970 in bf3 and skyrim. I.e games that are more played on a regular basis compared to the 2 games the 7970 win's in. (Metro and AVP olololol)

Ok well enjoy your 3FPS then.

People just really can't handle the fact that neither card is definitively better. Always has to be a winner and a loser.

Actually it's 4.4fps and that's with the 7970 being overclocked higher.

I never said one was better at everything, I just said that the 680 was better at BF3 by a longshot. And as the other guy said, it's way better in Skyrim too. Oh yea and it also does better in WoW. These are some of the most commonly played games today. So that's what made me buy it.

You should buy the card that plays what you want the best. If the 7970 did better in those games, I would have bought that MSI Lightning one that looked really nice.

I own 3 of each cards (2 each on water, 1 each on air), and did my own GTX 580 3GB SLI vs GTX 680 SLI vs HD 7970 CrossfireX Overclocked Review on my blog with all of them at their highest safest overclock on water, and at 1920 x 1200, 2560 x 1600, and 5760 x 1200 resolutions. Basically here's what it boils down to:

GTX 580 Pros:
1. The GTX 580's, aside from benchmarks, still competes with the GTX 680's and HD 7970's in games.
2. The GTX 580's prices can be found as low as $300 used to $350 new.
3. The GTX 580's have CUDA, which is beneficial in many things, particularly video encoding, if you don't have Quick Sync.
4. The GTX 580's make use of better Anti-Aliasing algorithms like CSAA.
5. The GTX 580's still performs better in games than even the HD 7970's when PhsyX and CSAA can be utilized.
6. The GTX 580's have higher compute power than the GTX 680's.

GTX 680 Pros:
1. The GTX 680's have better power consumption and stay cooler, easier.
2. The GTX 680's average overclock up to 1.175V's is higher than the HD 7970.
3. The GTX 680's have CUDA, which is beneficial in many things, particularly video encoding, if you don't have Quick Sync.
4. The GTX 680's make use of better Anti-Aliasing algorithms like CSAA, and now TXAA, which makes edges look better without the drop in performance when using MSAA.
5. The GTX 680's scales well even at 5760 x 1200 resolution where people think 2GB VRAM will prevent playable framerates at that resolution.
6. The GTX 680's performs much better than the HD 7970's with more aggressive tessellation settings.

HD 7970 Pros:
1. The HD 7970's are cheaper now.
2. The HD 7970's can overclock higher once voltages get to 1.3V's, and performs better than the GTX 680's in games that don't utilize PhysX and implement CSAA.
3. The HD 7970's have better compute power, and will show also show in games that utilize it, like Civilization 5.
4. The HD 7970's scales well at 5760 x 1200 resolution.
5. The HD 7970's performs much better than the GTX 680's when there's no tessellation.

Graphics cards and overclocks:
GTX 580 3GB SLI Overclocks (using 296.10 drivers):
SLI = 930/1002MHz at 1100mV's

GTX 680 2GB SLI Overclocks (using 301.24 drivers) :
GPU 1 = 1146/1700MHz 1199MHz Boost with 1264MHz max Core Clock
GPU 2 = 1116/1725MHz 1169MHz Boost with 1234MHz max Core Clock
SLI = 1111/1700MHz 1164MHz Boost with 1229MHz max Core Clock
GPU 3 (air) = 1161/1702MHz 1214MHz Boost with 1228MHz max Core Clock

HD 7970 3GB CrossfireX Overclocks (using Catalyst 12.3 drivers) :
GPU 1 = 1170/1780MHz at stock voltages | 1290/1780MHz at 1300mV's
GPU 2 = 1160/1725MHz at stock voltages | Not taken
Crossfire = 1150/1725MHz at stock voltages | 1255/1725MHz at 1300mV's
GPU 3 (air) = 1165/1680MHz at stock voltage (which is 1.112V's as opposed to 1.174V's, which gets 1210MHz Core Clock at 1.174V's) | Not taken

Note: Higher overclocks were stable in some benchmarks, but not in others. This was the lowest common denominator for 100% stability.

Captain I think the real advantage with Nvidia cards and AA isn't CSAA or TXAA but how with Inspector you can use OGGSSAA and SGGSSAA which produce image quality close to pure super sampling for a reduced performance hit. I think the AA features that ship with Nvidia control panel and CCC are mostly similar. I've found using several different setups as well that AMD tends to force regular MSAA/AAA/SSAA better in most games then comprable Nvidia driver based AA however if you are willing to dig into it with Inspector and find driver bits for each of your games you can really make games shine.

What I really wish is that Nvidia and AMD would work on getting transparency MSAA/(or Adaptive AA for AMD users) implemented in all games. It provides IQ similar to SSAA for an MSAA performance hit. The problem is most devs have switched to deferred renderers which makes traditional MSAA extremely bandwidth intensive. That's why a game like Crysis 2 ships with only post-process AA and no MSAA options.

Anyway I'm way too into Anti-Aliasing I can talk forever about it that's just my take.

Quite right, but I didn't want to (and probably couldn't) go into that level of detail. thumb.gif
