MSI 7870 with GTA 4 - Page 2

I wouldn't say it's a CPU bottleneck, the Q8300 is pretty similar to a 955BE and I can run it on these settings with a GTX 550Ti and get 30-60FPS.

(CTRL+click to see fullscreen)

so you should have no problems getting 60+FPS at 1440x900 with your rig. Do you have all the latest drivers/game updates installed?

Oh yeah I did have a similar problem that you are having, try uninstalling and reinstalling again, that fixed it for me.

Your also at 4ghz, the OP is at 3.3Ghz, that right there should be a night and day difference. The combination of the lower resolution, the CPU he is using (and its clockspeed), and the fact that the game is horribly coded is what is causing his issues.

I haven't updated my sig rig. I'm running at stock speeds (3.2GHz) for reasons I can't be bothered to explain now.

You mean to tell me that Raising the resolution Raises the FPS? WHAT!?

Something is wrong with your configuration, as my 3.5Ghz Athlon II X2 HTPC sig rig w/ 4830 graphics got better FPS then that @ 1680x1050... That being said, my gaming sig rig did see a good performance benefit from going to a 4.4ghz quad. Draw distance does really help though, I had mine around 30-40, 100 does not add any value.

No, im not saying that increasing his resolution will increase his FPS, im just saying that he isnt really taxing his GPU to its full potential at the lower resolution. tongue.gif

edit: read it wrong

Anyway, you have some sort of issues, I could run it fine with an i3 at 3.6GHz, you should be able to run it with a C2Q at 3.3

Could be a bad install. Have you checked to see if your cpu is being maxed out?

this, check to see if your CPU is running at 100% while gaming. This will indicate a CPU bottleneck.

View distance will increase FPS if turned down as already stated, same with shadows. Make sure your fully patched. It could also be something silly as not having the latest drivers for your GPU, or not properly cleaning your old drivers before updating.

I guess there are a few mods out as well that will help, but check your CPU utilization first.

While that is true, it won't raise his FPS any, which is what he wanted in the OP.

Honestly is a very badly coded game. There are always people with issues with it, even with higher end hardware. Try reinstalling it.

Ofcourse GTA IV is CPU bound, I think reborn624 cpu is enough for this game since its 3.3ghz quad core, try to reinstall Cat 12.3 and also DX9 june 2010 again.
How about other games like Crysis2 or BF3? Do you get lower fps too? I guess not, right? wink.gif

Well... I had a 5770 and I just removed the old drives without reinstalling windows, and just installed drives for the 7870, lastest ones.

As I said, I'll reinstall the game to do a benchmark.

II'll reinstall game first and do a benchmark. If doesn't fix it I'll try reinstall cat and directx

Crysis 2 I have 40-70fps maxed out and BF3 I have 50-80
