GSOD, Driver or hardware related issue?

I'm just wondering what is the cause of GSOD in general. I recently got a 7970 that crashed to GSOD in 3D mode randomly. I'm wondering if it's worth reformatting/tinkering with or is it a faulty card? Or possibly can it be both?

GSODs are usually caused by three things:

- Unstable GPU / CPU OC

- Bad RAM / GPU

- Buggy GPU driver installation

Have you tried different driver versions?

I've tried 12.3 and 12.4 beta. I've tried it with MSI Afterburner and Asus Tweak. Also OC and stock speeds. All these seem to crash or GSOD. I might try a reformat tonight and see if it helps

Having similar issues. I GSOD w/ even the slightest OC using CCC or Afterburner on 12.6(beta and WHQL both), and 12.4s. on 12.6 betas I would GSOD @ stock. Also I seem to be able to only get a mediocre OC(1150/1775, temps limited to 1140/1750) at best, ASIC 67.7%. Also I start to artifact @ 65c regardless of OC.

I have a Sapphire 7970 OC w/ the Dual-X cooler. I know it sounds immature, but I'm wondering if I should just RMA it.

Forgot to mention I have used the ATIman uninstaller when going from 12.4 to 12.6 WHQL, issue still persists.
