Saying "it's not our fault, it's the government!" is just a cop out that allows the govt to run wild while the people sit on couches and disavow responsibility.

If a government has the inclination and balls to push through unpopular bills/acts then they will, the average citizen is pretty much powerless to do anything about it. It sucks but it's true.

Oh right so you're directly responsible for SOPA, PIPA and whatever that other new one is?

It should bother people a lot more that this kind of crap is happening all for the sake of some suit wearing exec having a bigger profit margin.
Stupid to think that SOPA was the work of the government anyway. It's the work of the more wealthy, and more powerful, entertainment industry.

Companies are so freaking worried over their little music lol...

Simple... do more tours/concerts

At least feel honored people WANT to put your music in a video or "worse" pirate it.

That's the thing. As soon as the citizens start getting the short end of the stick, they'll realize "hey, our government cares more about entertainment execs then us. We should do something about that."

If the bill were to go through yes I think we as a country would be responsible. But it was stopped once already by people speaking up and taking a stand.
Hopefully it will be stopped again.

seems like an impossible request

Have videos be screened before their are allowed to show up on their site. Which is going to cost them quite a fair share given how many videos get uploaded daily. Do they even make a lot off of youtube?

Youtube has a massive user based fixated on listening primarily to the music content on there. I wonder what is going to happen if all those pop artists when their image isn't as spread from their youtube popularity. If anything, this might backfire on them.

LOL @ people complaining about censorship.

Just cut off YouTube access in Germany. That's really the only appropriate response to holding website owners responsible for user's content, when the whole point of the website is user-generated content. The model doesn't work in those conditions, so move the business elsewhere.

It's what Google should have done in response to the lawsuit being filed - turn public opinion even further against the already-unpopular recording industry.
It could have been a temporary blackout, but now it's too late and the damage has already been done.

Yeah i remember all those times I used youtube to watch funny videos with the family or pranks and all that to get a good laugh when I had like a 1.5mbit connection. Now that I have a 18 mbit connection I have to wait a lot of times for videos to load even at 260p frown.gif Everything else downloads fine. Right now I'm downloading the Diablo 3 client at 1.6mbit-20mbit and before that I couldn't watch a darn video
at 480p w/o having to wait to charge.
