[BBC] YouTube loses court battle over music clips - Page 7

It's what Google should have done in response to the lawsuit being filed - turn public opinion even further against the already-unpopular recording industry.
It could have been a temporary blackout, but now it's too late and the damage has already been done.

Not a bad idea. From here, the German public would probably refute and complain to their government.

Wow, thanks..

Noone in Germany likes the GEMA by the way (what a surprise), even musicians and record labels are pissed off at them because they refuse to adapt to the modern music market. Hell, they even ban videos that are uploaded by the musicians themselves.

Honestly, as much as I feel for German Citizens, they need to just block the country from access. Yes, you can use proxies, but most won't understand how to do that. Cause and outcry, and watch how fast they change their mind when a bunch of angry people come knocking on the doorsteps of the politicians.

Even better shut off google access to Germany. That would really send a message to them. thumb.gif

Does youtube even need to be the badguy in this? I mean if I was some internet site operating out of X country and what I was doing was perfectly legal in my country then if another country had a hissy fit about my content I would just say to them "So piss off and don't watch my site then".

So can't youtube just go "whatever man" and ignore em and let the german govt block the site?

Mute...Pfft that't being kind...
I'd vote for a full content ban every video just pops up and says "content not available in this territory:thumb:

I think you don't get it.
This is not the governments fault.
The GEMA is not owned by the state and just the company that labels engage in Germany to make sure that musicians (and themselves) get a fair cut of every played song wherever, whenever. They are managing the copyright of the musicians on behalf of the record labels. As I mentioned before, their problem is that they refuse to adapt to the modern age of music and close their mind to the opportunities of YouTube and similar platforms for marketing because they want enormous amounts of cash per song played.

You tube want to cut back on all the advertising... I'm sick to death of having to watch adverts every time I want to watch a 30-60 second video...

They just need to ban Americans from accessing YouTube. Simple and effective solution. Wait? How would that make you feel?

Also, this wont stop German Citizens from starting riots in the US.

Especially when the adverts are 1min+ and you can't skip it.

What the frank? How the hell should ANY company be responsible for what users do? Just look at WEAPON SELLERS... They know what they're selling and what it's going to be used for, however, are never held responsible for when it actually KILLS someone. @_@ Don't pin the blame on the company, pin it on the person.
