8150 vs. 2500k is a dumb debate too. If you game, get a 2500K. If you use heavily threaded applications, get the 8120/50.
Let's see some quad-core performance then rolleyes.gif
It's a turd...turds.
I bought one release night..it sucked bad..Netburst is better..I got lucky and a benching-type dude traded me an m4 for it..I win! thumbsupsmiley.png

What if i buy a 8120 and a am3+ board? my main focus is video editing (vegas, after effects) and photoshop. gaming 2nd. would i be beter off with a 2500k or to get a 8120 and then upgrade to piledriver when it comes? 8120 is like $160 right now so its at a pretty nice price.

I really want a 4 GHz stock 8350 or whatever they are planning to release this fall/winter and for $200 to $250 please. I bought my current CPU to hit 4 GHz...I got there... next one needs to do 5 GHz.

Hardwaresecrets did a few test and Photoshop CS4 and After Effect CS4 favored Intel largely. The funny thing is, when they tested ivy bridge, they used Photoshop CS5 and Bulldozer closed the gap. However they still used After Effect CS4 and Bulldozer performs very bad. I tried to find recent After Effects benchmarks but it seems noone cared for it.

After Effects CS4 is only able to use 4 physical cores so the BD cpu can't be fully utilized.

However i use After Effects CS5.5 and i can tell you my FX8120 powers through rendering like it's nothing !! I watch it render and it is nearly in realtime ! With correct setup it will use all 8 cores to render multiple frames at the same time, and boy is it quick.

For example i rendered a 1 minute 1920x1080 BF3 clip 3.30Gb with added filters & effects, rendered to lossless AVI ( finished file size 10Gb + ) it was done in 2min 43 seconds and used no more than 57% of the cpu's power. I was using browser at same time & listening to music biggrin.gif So for me the BD works a treat in After Effects CS5.5

I so wish (badly) that I could switch to AMD but with microcenter and their $50 off any Z77 board with the purchase of a gen 3 cpu its hard!

Im coming from a Q6600 and will prolly buy a new mobo/cpu combo over the weekend. I WANT to give AMD my money. I was looking at the FX 8150 though. If I new for sure that piledriver is coming out for the 990fx I would most likely do the jump now.

I mostly surf the web and run diablo 3 at the same time. I always have a game downsized. I do play BF3 and Source on occasion.

get the fx 8120, its exactly the same, only clocked slower at stock and the price is much better

I just changed from fx8150 to i5 3570k, main reason being my 8150 could not do 5ghz. I feel like i've downgraded, stupid idea on my part, but i was planning to sell this after the piledrivers come out next year... but it looks like my schedule is changing and my 3570k is leaving very soon...

Can't even clock my 3570k pass 4.7 ghz without 1.43v, sigh...

They have similar and mostly better deals on AM3+ mobos as well. 8120 is essentially a down clocked 8150. BF3 Loves the 81XX cpu's.

How high on voltage did you try to go to get the 8150 to 5 Ghz?
