XSPC EX140 Heat Dissipation

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have an XSPC RX360 already, but I am looking at getting 1 or 2 XSPC EX140s to add to the loop. I know the RX360 can dissipate ~250-300 watts with fans in the 1800-2200 rpm range, but I can not find any info on the the EX140.

System will be a 3770k (95w) and two GTX 570s (219w ea). Total - 533w going by TDP.

I do not want to cut up my 800d to fit a 240 in the bottom so I was going to use the two 140mm fan spaces for some extra rads.

Will I need both of the EX140s to keep temps in check? Would stepping up to some Black Ice Extremes be necessary?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

-Kevin

Typically, 120mm of rad space per component + 120mm extra rad space is plenty. For the 3770k and 2 GTX 570s, 480mm of rad space is plenty so adding just one EX140 would give you decent cooling and adding 2 would further your cooling capability even further.

I think either 120mm or 140mm would have been better. not a ton of 180/ 200mm on WC market. IMO

Another 140 x 55-63 thick rad will work just fine, push-pull if you can. bike.gif

I'm planning something similar for my 800D and am also reluctant to cut it up. I'm assuming you're talking about internally mounting rads using the 140mm fan locations in the bottom (near the PSU) and the rear exhaust one.

You need to make sure that a 140 rad will fit on the rear internally. I'm not talking about the depth over your MB/RAM; but, it's the width that concerns me. It's a very tight fit for the stock 140mm fan and I think the rad's extra little width might be too much. The EX140 specs state that it is only 143mm wide so at first glance it seems like you could force it to fit.

If you mount it case+fan+rad you should be able to clear the case edge/lip and overcome that obstacle. But you need to also consider that the plexiglass panel encroaches into the case a bit at about 1 1/8" from the panel edge (which is a little past the 140mm stock fan). That could be addressed by getting a solid panel.

My current plan is to use an EX120 on the rear and a RX120 (in push/pull) on the bottom. I'm going for silence as well as performance and want to use AP15 GTs.

Please report back here if you go that route and let us know if it fits.

I did not consider the width to be an issue (I do not have a mobo installed in the case yet). Thanks for letting me know, I will have to check that before I buy the rads.
