Temperature misread?

I purchased a graphics card recently and the seller had a waterblock installed and put the stock cooler back on for me. After installing graphics card and monitoring temperatures, it was idling at 50C (fairly high imo). When loaded with MSI Kombuster, temperatures instantly jumped to 100C and fans went to 100%.

We then took back plate off card and removed stock cooler. After investigating, all seemed fine. Just to make sure we cleaned off the GPU and heat sink and replaced with new thermal paste. We made sure all the thermal pads were intact and finally we reinstalled the stock cooler. We proceeded to load up MSI Kombuster and on load it reached 100C once again. After letting it stay on load, the air coming out exhaust was not warm at all.

Once again we checked thermal paste and pads and it all seemed fine. So OCN this is where i ask you, do you think that the card is misreading its temperate or do you think I am doing something wrong? Please leave your tips and suggestions for what i might be missing, thanks OCN! thumb.gif

EDIT: After putting load on the card, the card itself does not even feel warm when touched. I am so confused.

Most likely a simple misreading on Kombustor's part. Does it read the same in the actual GPU control panel and not a 3rd party app?

it reads the same in CCC, hardware monitor and MSI afterburner

Could be an issue with the temperature sensor on the GPU itself then, especially since it's used.

would you know where that is or any way to correct it?

It's on the card itself, so it'd have to be done manually of course. I do not know how, sorry.
