Use BIOS to overclock, a mild overclock is pretty easy even with your X6. Even a OC to 3.6ghz wouldnt be so bad.

Even if you overclock his cpu to 10ghz, it won't magically fix his crossfire issue. Did you read his posts? His second card is basically idling all the time while his first card is under load, that is not a bottleneck issue.

And What I'm saying is even if he got his CF working fine, that 2.8ghz is going to hold him back no matter what.

Try a fresh install of windows and fresh drivers on a secondary hard drive maybe? Install the newest bios and drivers for your mobo as well

I believe I somehow stumbled upon the issue. I think due to attempting to over clock the GPU’s the output somehow become less. I am running some tests with the card over clocked. The resolution was a huge issue once I reduced that I got better results.

Now I am thinking about over clocking my CPU.

Well, we don't usually edit anyone's posts (thread title included) + I was kind of hoping the OP would do it himself, but I'm going to go ahead and change it because I'm tired of this nonsense.

You'd think that nobody would think that they need to comment on the overpaying when they're making the NINETIETH post on the thread (like, what, none of the first 90 OCN'ers know anything about how much PC parts should cost?), but I guess that's expecting too much ...

Anyways, done.

So, Prophecy, what did you do exactly that caused your GPU usage on card 2 to jump from 50 to 99% on 3dMark11? Just remove the overclock? Let this be a lesson to you ... removing OC's should be among the very first things you do when you have issues with hardware. BTW, I think that score seems about right given your rig.

And of course, lowering resolution is going help your performance significantly.

Lastly a CPU OC will definitely help on certain games for sure ... but I have my doubts how much it would improve your GPU score in 3dMark11. Dzilla claims a big jump in GPU score from OC'ing his CPU, but there's also a lot more CPU demand when you're scoring almost 11K (like his water-cooled 470's can do) vs. when you're scoring 4500 wink.gif

I recommend looking up a guide to OC'ing your class of processor, or maybe asking on our AMD Processor forum. This is a GPU forum so I'd prefer this thread not become about 'how to OC your CPU', please.

Glad you were able to get it fixed - according to those screens you provided, it looks like the core clock somehow was running at 399 MHz and now its back up to 849 MHz thumb.gif

That's expected overclock using Afterburner with ULPS on.

To turn off ULPS;

1. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
2. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
3. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
4. Reboot PC

@brettjv – Yep. I removed the over clock. I was playing around with MSI Afterburner adjusting the clocks during the tests in an attempt to figure out what I was doing wrong.

I am not sure why a simple over clock would cause the GPU to lose over %50 of its speed. But that’s for me to figure out.

Lowering the resolution in higher performance games has helped a lot.

Thanks for every ones help. I am sorry that this was such a basic issue with 100% user error and that the forum title was to attract attention hence why i kept it. If it was not for you guys i would have never figured out why the GPU was running so poorly.

I thank you for the advice and the new tools I am using to simplify my life in the world of computers.

I am happy with what you guys have helped me accomplish.
