(Yay, my work is finally being popularized!)

My friend's mum needs me to build her a PC for CAD but I don't know what graphics card to put in there. The budget for the graphics card is ~ £450. My friend may also play games on this PC so that's why it's hard to decide whether to get them the GTX 680 or the Quadro 2000.

I think she will use AutoCAD and 3ds Max (I'm not too sure, I asked my friend and he hasn't responded yet). If the GTX 680 performs almost as well as the Quadro 2000 in CAD software then I'll go for the 680 instead. I think she also uses solidworks.

Apart from that, the rest of the system is sorted.

EDIT:
Also how will a 580 do in CAD?

580s and 680s are consumer cards, mainly used for gaming purposes.
If you need some raw power for CAD or 3D modelling Quadro serie is what you need.

Quadro.

Also, the computational performance of the GTX680, is plainly terrible.

Can't find any 2GB Quadro 2000s.

If my friend's mum wants to extend her budget then I'll put in a Quadro 4000 with 2GB VRAM

I use ATI also depending on what I am trying to do. This card is a beast. Compared to the 2000 its excels.

Hi guys, i registered just to answer this since everyone is indicating the Quadro 2000.

I read that the newest autocads use Direct X so I'm pretty sure the GTX 680 will be faster. Please look in to this! nerdsmiley.png:
The GTX 580 wil probably be faster aswell since it works in a diffirent way then the GTX 680. Same thing: look in to this!

EDIT 1:
Now, for the Quadro 4000 and the GTX 680 and the GTX 580, THAT would be nice to see a benchmark between the three. If you can find those, msg me!

EDIT 2: Some interesting tests showing the 580 and 680. Be sure to have a nerd ready to explain the values ;-)

EDIT 3: This thread is for Adobe premiere users BUT it does show the stats of the Quadro's and the GTX's very nicely!

If you wanna use all features with solidworks you need a quadro card. I have solidworks 2008 and with a gtx 570 there are a few drawbacks. The biggest one is that there is no realview if youre not using a quadro card. I don't know if this is a big deal for her but worth asking smile.gif
