Alright so my friend a while back being computer iliterate as she is, Spent 700 bucks on a pc from a random store it has....

Core i5 2320
Radeon HD 6670(needs to be upgraded)
4GB single stick ddr3 1333mhz
RAndom sata HDD
RAndom Sata Dvd



And...A penguin 550W v2.3 it has...
19Amps on the 12v rail
40 amps on the 5v rail

I am planning on giving her my gtx 460, i need a cheap power supply that will run it, No overclocking, No anything else, Just stock standard, would...

this do it? it would need a 4pin molex to pcie adapter but..

The requirements for a gtx 460 are 450w PSU but you should always have a little headroom . A 550W or even a 650W would do great! My choice for this system would be Corsair TX650

I second the TX650. The TX750 would be a better choice if your friend was an overclocker, but since that is not the case, the TX650 should handle it well.

Lol, why not just propose an AX850 while you're at it?

OP the CX430 should be fine.

You know.... There's no need for a 650W power supply at all for that rig. I ran a power hungry 1366 i7, a GTX580 on a 650W power supply. A 1155 i5 and a GTX 460 will not draw even close to what a TX650W can dish out.

A decent 500W will be more than enough. (In fact, the perfect wattage imo)

Get this ^ or something similar if possible. Or you can find something modular and spend a bit more. Anything from Silverstone, Seasonic, Andyson, Enermax, will do fine.

Depending on which GTX 460 you have it won't draw more than 14amps on the 12v rail. The CX430 has 28amps on the 12v rail. The rest of the system is not going to draw more than 200W to overload the rest of the rails.

A 650TX can power a GTX 580...

The only thing I might consider is if you want to upgrade to something like a 570 ever you'll want more power in the PSU.

For what you want to do and for what seems to be a casual gaming rig then the CX430 is enough.
