[XBL Rewards] Gold Rush Competition. Is Microsoft in trouble?

It's a fact that gold members make up barely a third of the xbox population. This competition wants you to bulk buy gold memberships in an attempt to win Microsoft points. It's somewhat ludicrous to think they can't operate like a normal company and offer free to enter competitions or offer promotions based on non payments. Is it possible to think that Microsoft are either greedy or in dire straights?

I see what you did there, but on topic this seems like such a money grab. Personally this is why i originaly went for the ps3 god that was ages ago because even thought the xbox was cheaper buy the time it was eol i would have spent hundreds more on it than a ps3, so to me this just seems like a dodgy way to get more people onto online.

I'm willing to bet the reason gold memebers make up 1/3rd the population is because of all the accounts people made for the free month of gold. I have one gold account, and 3 accounts that are now silver since the one month trial ended for them. So those accounts don't really count in the whole population of XBL.

Well lets face it, even as someone who has xbl gold, im tired of paying for it. Whats the point? Wheres the value in me paying for xbox live gold? You can play games for free online for any other console. :/

I pay for it because I like the quality of XBL. I have a PS3, and I never use it. PSN is just so...ehh to me. The Xbox Dashboard is far superior to the PS3s, the service is solid, I love my Zune Pass, and I refuse to let go of my cross game chat lobbies. I don't even know why the PS3 doesn't have that last one. It's supposed to be more powerful than an Xbox, yet they can't implement cross game chat? Yeah, PSN needs to be free. Or everyone would get an Xbox instead.
