Great to have you around!! I agree that you should contact a mod to get "hardware rep" status

I would recommend making strips with the fan connector that is just under 1 amp. Motherboard fan headers are rated for that, and I think would be a good point to start with.

Also about that, what is the formula for figuring out exact draw of these LED strips?? I want to run my off my aquaero's PWM connector, but it has a 1 amp limit.

i did "most" of the work with soldering and applying the LED strips inside the case this weekend... BUT i wasnt careful enough and when trying it out, i touched some unisolated area to the metal of the case so now (i think) the RGB controller is dead; the LEDs stil light up but all colours shuffle very quikly and the remote does not produce any response; there was electronic burning smell coming from the controller, too.
I am still worried somewhat about the LEDs sticking to the case, specially near the soldered ends, they do tend to come loose; we'll see how long it can last;
I ordered a new controller and it should arrive in a couple of days; if that is the only problem, i should be able to upload some pictures of the finished work then.

In the meantime, here are som pics of my work in progress:

first half of my pc

second half

as u can see my soldering skills are not great, but i got a bit better towards the end

all in all im quuite dissapointed, 2 days work and im not even sure it will work at the end

As long as you are careful with the next controller, you should be good to go.

Ya they won't stick, it's the same quality of stuff I ended up getting. Save your money and just get it directly from eBay (China), that's all HitLights is doing.

While I am satisfied with the LEDs, the overall quality of manufacturing leads me to believe this stuff does not have real 3M tape. I mean seriously, the strips look like they have been cut out by hand.

I will add my own 3M tape this weekend, as for now I have to re-stick 2 or 3 times a day. I may have to remove it completely, so that they don't fall into a fan.

im sorry to say that ive just looked into my case and two of the sections i did were hanging into the air... ended up sticking them with some tape; and i was careful to only stick it once when i applied it... it can only stick firmly if u do long sections

i might end up removing everything too, im not sure i want any of this china stuff in my case

Well I mean the LEDs are going to come from China regardless. I just get tired of the bold faced counterfeiting and lying that they seem to get away with so often.

So the strip LEDs are still a great idea, so long as you only pay a few dollars and supply your own 3M two-sided tape.

Example, 5 meters of RGB LED strip is $1.38 delivered.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5050-SMD-Non-Waterproof-RGB-5M-300-LED-Strip-24-44-KEY-IR-12V-5A-Power-Supply-/370732648690?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item56516348f2

A RGB contoller, $1.58 delivered.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1M-2M-3M-5M-RGB-LED-Light-Strip-24-Key-44-Key-IR-Remote-Controller-4-pin-Cable-/180937841950?pt=US_String_Lights_Fairy_Lights&var=&hash=item2a20bc5d1e

So if you paid $3 including shipping for the items, that would be reasonable, and it would be expected and acceptable that the glue would fail.

Hitlights however is completely gouging you guys, in my opinion, literally charging you well over 10 times the actual retail price.

EDIT: My first link actually includes a controller and power supply, so you can have the system for $1.38, not the $3 I assumed.

Weird. All of mine are still holding firm. I wonder if they changed adhesives since I bought them last?

The whole kit doesn't cost $1.38, the individual pieces start at that price. The strip alone costs $12.77. You have to select the items you want in your order in that particular listing.
