EASY/CHEAP LED Case Lighting..... - Page 9

I don't have these in a case yet, but here is a quick picture. The 5050's are on the left, and the 3528 are on the right. Both are the cool white. This first picture is without flash:

I know its sometimes tough to tell in pictures, so I'll describe what I'm seeing. The 5050's are putting out quite a bit more light. But...the 3528's look like they would be less distinct in the case...or what I'm trying to say is that you would notice the light source less with the 3528's, and simply notice the light it produces. Or at least that is what it seems like outside of the case. I'll post again after I get them inside a case.

I'll also say that if you leave them on the roll they come in, they get hot fast! Was starting to smell melting plastic before I yanked the wires out. These things are bright!

Also, ignore the fan/radiator mess in the background. I'm in the middle of a fan round-up test. Look for a review/thread soon, but I'll give you a sneak peek at the results....the Noise Blockers fared well. thumb.gif

Those 3528's are the double density versions right? Which ones got hot on ya? I feel no noticeable heat coming from mine at all.

Post some pics when you guys are done, so we have a nice gallery of what "cheap" LED's can accomplish. I cringe every time I see someone that has overpaid for the other brands of LED's. thumb.gif

Yes, the 3528's are double density. Both these, and the 5050's got real hot. But...you've got to remember that I still had them on the plastic spool, so they were layered together on top of each other. When I unroll them I'll update the thread on whether I have any heat issues. But rolled up like this, they were getting hot enough to soften the plastic roll they came on!

By the way, loved the pictures of the way you cut and extended them with wiring so that it was one continuous strand that only lit up where you wanted it to. Gave me some ideas. I'm going to use a controller to allow dimming/off functions, so I may want to have some separately controlled sections...but it was still cool the way you did it.

if you want something ultra bright (double this brightness) then there is a place in NZ that ships anywhere and has pretty good prices: www.technicalequipment.co.nz

EDIT: im not trying to advertise or anything, i just use their 60 LED per meter strips and they are BRIGHT! I have to run them off a special dimmer I picked up from there aswell because they are so bright.

I checked out the webpage, and their lumens rating is pretty high! Would love to see pics of these compared to the Hitlights. But...the whole point of this thread was CHEAP lighting. I may be misinterpreting the website, but I believe they are charging $93 NZD per meter. If so, that is about $70 USD per meter, which would translate into about $21 per foot! The Hitlights being discussed here come in closer to $1.50 per foot, depending on the flavor you get. Very different products!

And really, as bright as mine are, anything brighter is craziness.

Plus....at less than 1/10th of the price, if you DID want more brightness, you could just lay down two strips to double the brightness. thumb.gif

Made a bigger Fractal sign for my stand. The red that comes through is just red plastic that catches the light.

Has anyone placed an order from Hitlights.com and actually received a product? I placed my order on 05/20/12 and I have yet to get anything. My bank account shows that the transaction went though, but I have yet to see anything. I called their number today, and about about 14 rings it sounded like whoever answered was asleep, there was some yelling, then they tried to speak to me in a foreign language and then hung up...
