New laptop for college. - Page 3

I've seen nothing but bad experiences with HP as well... I would stay away from them.

1080p is going to make games even harder to run. I would get a 720p screen, personally. It's never bothered me for a laptop screen; if I want a bigger screen, I just plug in my desktop monitor.

As for Lenovo screens, I can agree that my Y560 did not have a great screen. But I didn't think it was decidedly "bad" i.e., it never got in the way of me doing things or playing games.

That's a good point. I'll probably buy a desktop monitor at some point in the near future, and I don't see why I'd need 1080p on the go... That's pretty much the only benefit of the HP over the lenovo (except maybe some heating problems that the Lenovo is having). I'd rather go Lenovo, I think. Plus, I think I'd rather have a 14" over a 15.6". I have a lot of time to think about it, though.

Thanks for your personal experience. Have you had any heating issues while playing games? I've heard that on some CPU-heavy games like GTA-IV, the CPU will get near 100C and start throttling.

CPU? nop, while playing BF, or GTA max CPU temp is around 90 (which is standard for a laptop that has no cooling) .. but, i did have GPU overheating issues with BF3, its the only game that overheats my GPU causing the game to crash but keeping the laptop running if i exit it. everything else, its great.

Really? from what I've heard the GPU in this laptop stays pretty cool, even under strenuous conditions.

with prime95 it doesnt get hotter than 81 degrees in my case, but when you start a heavy game that would heat up both your CPU and GPU the overall temps will get hotter if you dont have a cooler (like in my case)

And this only happens with BF3? whatever, I'm not too fond of that game anyways. I may/may not get it just to play with a friend.

So otherwise, no problems or complaints? The main thing I hear that's bad about it is the screen. Is it terrible or simply mediocre? I don't mind having a mediocre screen.
