greetings .
i have a asus a8n-e motherboard . on this board there is 3 places to hook up case fans .
on my antec truepower2 , there is 2 plugs for case fans only..
my question ,,,
where is the BEST place , to hook up the case fans ,,,
motherboard?
psu??

the antec 120 tricool fans that i have purchased , have both connections ..

any suggestions on this matter , would be greatly apprecitated .

Hi littlejohn,

The real issue is how many amps the case fans draw. The motherboard connections can only take a limited amount. Look in the manual for the max amp draw and then check the case fan(s) and see if they meet the requirements. You can play it safe by not using the motherboard fan connections and connect directly to the psu, but may lose the ability to control them or allow the motherboard to control them. It's just a give and take here and personal choice. If you place to much of a load on the motherboard circuits, a MOSFET, or voltage regulator will go up in smoke, literally. I've seen and had it happen to me.

As for me. It's 50/50. Some of my fans are connected directly to the psu and others connected to the motherboard. I usually connect the rear exhaust fan, case side fan or blow hole fan to the psu. The front inlet fan(s) connect to the motherboard, if they do not draw too many amps/watts. For me, it's where and how I need to run the wires. I hate wires running all over the case. It looks messy and not very professional in my humble opinion.

Good luck and I hope this helped, :-)

I go 4pin on my big fans into the psu..The only 3-pin that monitors fan speed on the A8E-N is the 3-pin CPU header, so if you dont have a fan controller and want to monitor one fan use it..
