Insanely hard games?

I've been sharpening my skills for the big tournament coming up and I've run out of games.
What SINGLE PLAYER games do you guys know of (besides Super Meat Boy, I Want To Be The Guy, QWOP, and Touhou series) that are ridiculously difficult?

And I mean difficult by design, not because the game is a buggy mess.

Danke for reading. thumb.gif

What about Super Mario ROM hack? I can't recall which one it was, but it's supposedly extremely hard.

Ahh, I was going to come into this and suggest touhou...

Well, if you want something that has the CAPACITY to be insanely difficult, check out Melty Blood.
Its a 2D fighter with insane levels of depth. The hardest AI isn't too difficult, but if you try out netplay it is one of the most humbling experiences you will ever encounter.

This is some championship level play.
Also, if you're a fan of type-moon, this is a real treat.

If you're interested in something LIKE touhou, Jamestown on judgement difficulty is pretty difficult.

P.S. I love your candy reviews.

I've been through my fair share of Rom hacks as well. Kaizo Mario was quite entertaining for a while.
What else ya got?

I was actually an avid Jamestown player for a few months. Back then, the Judgement difficulty was horrendously broken. Shots didn't register when they were supposed to at all and glitches were plentiful.

Nice suggestion on MB, Doujin games are usually far harder than anything on the western market. Especially when it comes to side scrolling shooters.

Are we talking fast paced gameplay only sort of difficulty?

Because 'The Genius of Sappheiros' is a pretty difficult RPG style game, Final Fantasy meets Touhou sort of deal.

There's an english patch out there that isn't too difficult to find.

It takes a lot of strategy and setup to even attempt any of the EX-Bosses. I gave up after awhile, because I'm only mildly masochistic in my game choices.
