Discounted i5-2500k or i5-3570k?

It's all over the internet that ivy is going to have trouble overclocking because of the 22nm process. Would I be better off getting a discounted i5 2500k? All I care about is performance. What would you suggest?

ivy bridge would have awesome synergy with your mobo and gpu. asrock z77 4 can put ivy bridge's integrated graphics to good use by using hyperformance. also your gpu would be able fully use the pci 3.0 enhancing the performance by 15-20% ( so they say). hyperformance with the ivybridge would also give a "30-70%" boost.

I think you should go for IB because of all the performance boost you will be getting, when gaming that will be more important.

If you overclock your IB it will get really hot and what not. id reccomend 4.0 if you have good airflow with your rosewill case.

In conclusion. i think 45%-90%+ gpu performance would get you more framerates then the extra .5ghz the SB will get you when overclocked, also youd have peace in mind knowing your build would be at full potential, so go for the IB dude thumb.gif

For strictly cpu performance just go ahead with the 2500k. You may want to wait and see how well the 3570k will actually overclock before you order. i5 is an amazing chip though. You can't go wrong no matter what.wink.gif

Depending what you want from it. While having a discrete graphics card the integrated graphics on the ib wont matter. As far as the full capability of the PCI-E 16x 3.0 you won't even saturate 2.0 @ 16x so it's not a big deal either. The only time you might is when you have crossfire or sli and your board will jump down to 8x @ 2.0 on both cards.....So I guess if you are going to be running sli 680's for example you might want to wait for ivy. Other than that I see no real difference.

integrated graphics will matter on the cpu cause of hyperformance, it combines the cpu gpu and discrete gpu by assigning different tasks to each one for 30%-70%+ increased overall performance. as for the pci-e 3.0 on the gtx 680 it will actually increase performance by 15-20% by having the ivy bridge. i've actually researched this alot since i will be having the same build when ib comes out. the advantages of a z77 mobo, ib, and a 3.0 gpu is quite clear.

It doesn't work that way. Hyperperformance works by letting iGPU decides which frame to render while dGPU does the work. Hyperperformance will be the same for HD 2000 and HD 3000. So having HD 4000 isn't going to have an impact on Hyperperformance.

Correct. Also, a GTX 680 on 16x 2.0 would be 16GB/s and 3.0 would be 32GB/s at full bandwidth. You will never saturate that with a GTX 680. Even 8x 3.0 is still 16GB/s.
