6950 to 6970 unlocking gone wrong ! Need help :)

Thread Starter
Hi, so i've just tried to apply the 6970 Sapphire ROM to my 2 GB Club 3D Radeon HD 6950, but after i turned it off, let it stay off for 30 seconds and then reboot, the display stays black.
Now, i'm lucky that i got a non-reference card with a Bios Switch, so i switched it to "2".

Well, i got 2 questions;

1. If i go back to the stock ROM file, will it overwrite switch "2" or "1" ? (I heard "2" is default nomatter what)
The reason i'd like to do this is because i'm not going to give up smile.gif

2. Any tips or special ways i should do it ?
I followed this guide: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1608/5/

Thanks in advance, Homeworlder biggrin.gif

Wait what ?

This is what i did:

  1. Flashed 6970
  2. Rebooted
  3. Nothing happened
  4. Switched to "2" on the BIOS physical switch
  5. Booted up succesfully
  6. Not knowing what next, leading to the first post

Yeah get the newest version of RBE then load the 6950 original bios that you just flashed with to fix your card and on the far right tab hit unlock 6970 shaders flash the card with that and then overclock the card with sapphire trixx or afterburner to 6970 levels.

Almost right.

SInce you have a flashable card, you might as well set voltage and not have to use trixx/ab crap.

OP, do you know what voltage you want to run? 1.2v is safe 24/7 on air which should get most gpus 950-975 on the core. To get to 1ghz you need closer to 1.25v+. I've written a lot on the subject of rbe + voltage, its in my posts. Lemme see if I bookmarked any of it.

Thank goodness for rep trackers. This is how I track my posts, or at least the ones deemed worthy of remembering lol.

Don't really know much of what you're talking about as i usually use Catalyst Control Center for overclocking and stuff like that.
But currently i'm stuck at normal 6950 as 6950 with 6970 shaders get's BSOD and the 6970 rom won't even boot.

BSOD from just unlocking the shaders in RBE? You are not touching anything else?
