¿ Please help to decide between those two: ///// -----ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 --------////// OR //////---------- GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H--------//////// ?

I'm building a rig, my pc is the stated on my sig, i decided to don't wait more IB since there are already valid evidence in this forum that proof that proc sucks badly, SO, i plan to get a 2600K and a proper motherboard for it, could you please tell me which one of those two GA-Z77X-UD5H or ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 is a better choice, they boths cost 189 USD in amazon.com. Actually i already order the Asus because i have one ASUS P5Q and it is really a flawless MB, my E8400 reach to 4.0 Ghz in a non reference cheap air cooler so i'm love of this brand plus i never had a Gigabyte MB but i read is a really good brand.

I know some people coud say just pick the Z77 is new! but i am suspicious about new technologies which are not totally tested, the problem is there is no reason to don't buy Z77 front Z68 but also there is no real reason to to don't prefer Z68 fron Z77, i mean, PCI 3.0 is not necesary at all, not yet in some years further when Games ask to much video card power, but when it happen, my recently Bougth GTX 680 will be old also (SLI is still a chance to extend power), USB 3.0 is also unnecesary, i have a lot of USB 2.0 devices, and best part of every said before, is that Z68 work and PCI 3.0. and USB 3.0 not native, but it still work it. Plus is a 3rd revision, nothing wrong can happen here. Also i dont know if gigabyte can Overclock so well than Asus, or is just im stick with a brand.

What is your opinion about this? I have to decide soon before they pack my items today.

The Gigabyte comes with a front panel USB 3.0 bracket whereas the Asus you only get the bracket that attaches to a case expansion slot. Z77 supports Lucid Virtu MVP. The Asus is a decent board, but the Gigabyte has a newer chipset, same expansion layout, more SATA ports, an onboard debug LED, mSATA, and more USB 3 ports. I would not hesitating buying either, but Gigabyte is the better choice at this point in time and will OC just as good.

Lucid Virtu MVP is supported from the Z77 chipset (well, actually just licensed but same difference) not the CPU. So you can use Ivy Bridge or Sandy Bridge and be able to use MVP. It won't work on Z68 because no board manufacturers have licensed it. All other features will work regardless of what CPU you're using, except PCI-E 3 which needs Ivy Bridge to work.

Nice, and what about PCI E 3.0 and USB 3.0? , there is no reason to get Z77 if i have sandy bridge, that's is all my worry, because of course i would rather prefer Z77 for a further upgrade if haswell result be great.

Go for Z77X-UD5H, more bang for your buck. You will not regret it 2 weeks from now as Z77 is a replacement for Z68.

USB 3.0 will still be fine, but with a sandy bridge cpu you won't get pci-e 3.0, that depends on the cpu, has to be ivy for pci-e 3.0 on z77.

Let me clarify this, i can install Sandy Bridge on Z77 motherboard, however my PCI E 3.0 and USB 3.0 will work like 2.0, is that correct? thank you advance for helping, i already cancelled Z68 order redface.gif
post #9 of 14
if you cant wait for the cpu, i would get the z68 and I7 2600k.. but if i was you i would wait and get a nice i5 3570k or i7 3770k with a z77..
PS you know haswell will be on a new socket the lga1150 smile.gif

[edit] pcie with a sandy bridge on the z77 will work like pcie 2.0 but USB 3.0 will work with either cpu.. USB 3.0 wasnt avaliable on 6-series mobos unless you had a controller which is now integrated on the 7-series mobos

With Sandy on Z77, you get USB 3.0 and PCIe 2.0. PCIe 3.0 is exclusive to Ivy.
