Hey Linux Forum,

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my Bulldozer Rig with a ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX motherboard.

I'm using the onboard audio for output. I am running a 3.5 mm > RCA cable off the speaker jack on the motherboard to a Yamaha R-S300 Receiver. In Windows I get great sound out of this system.

When running Ubuntu though, I get no bass out of the speakers or sub, and my left and right channels are reversed.

I'm going to assume since you're on the older Ubuntu then you're still using Alsa. So open up a terminal and type alsamixer and make sure the channels aren't muted or low.

Try turning up Center and LFE and see if that helps, I keep mine maxed at 100 ( db stays at 0 with mine , if it goes above you may start to get crackling so stay at or below 0 db gain )

Seems LFE is the one you're looking for

Wouldn't hurt if you wanted to, as 1.0.24 added support to a lot of creative/sb sound cards, can't remember .25 features off the top of my head.

Also eddited that post, LFE seems to control the .1 (sub) channel that you're looking for

Yeah, how do I update alsamixer?

I'm curious if Ubuntu is trying to output the LFE channel on a separate jack and not combining it on just the stereo plug.

Wouldn't know how to do so on Ubuntu without manually compiling it, you'll have to look that one up, I'm assuming since it is Ubuntu someones made a custom PPA that'll have it. ( That screen came off of my Arch box and it's rolling release so always the latest that upstream is )

And did you turn LFE up?

If it works great in Windows and not in Linux I wouldn't know.

I'm not an audio person but I would assume rca only passes 2? channels... if so that would mean it's being upmixed somewhere along the way. If Windows is doing so I'm not sure how it would pass it to the reciever. But if it can pass it then all it would take is some .asoundrc hacks to do so.

I don't know, it's late and I'm partially drunk, tired, and trying to think... not a great combo

You might have to wait till someone with more audio experience can shine in, or maybe head over to the audiophiles forum and ask there.
