Make sure the ip address its on the same subnet you use behind your Asus Router.
see if that helps your issue.

Yeah I did that but I am assigning it the address of the vlan network I wish to use. Is this wrong?

Example. Vlan 3 is 192.168.1.1/24 but the router is 10.1.1.1/16 so you are saying make the VLAN IP 10.1.1.whatever / 16 to be on the same network as the router? Will the switch be able to forward the 192 network properly? I thought it wont?

Switches cant Route between different networks unless its a Layer 3 switch. There is no way around that. I tought you wanted w/e pc's on vlan 3 to be able to access the internet thru your Asus router. But if you have 2 different networks attached to the 2960g switch then thats not possible. You need a router than can do inter vlan routing.

The 2960G can route now with IOS 12.2 or higher. I have IOS 15 on mine. I am just confused because this thing has IP ROUTING and can set up 8 static unicast routes which means I should be able to static route any subnet from any vlan I want to my router and my router should be able to work with it BUT.... I dont know why it isnt working at all. I am also not able to get intervlan routing to work. And this is so simple of a setup it is making my head spin

I am calling on anyone else with a 2960 to verify that you can get intervlan routing to work. I do not think people understand that these things have limited ability to route between vlans etc... using SVI's. These DO NOT support routed ports and IP DEFAULT-NETWORK commands which makes them so so so far away from a true router.

I am just trying to really validate if these things are useful at all past layer 2.

I think you are confussed. IP Routing command is and will only work with SVI's (Switched Virtual Interfaces) which is used on topologies with Layer 3 switches.

I guess I am ... so even if these things can route... see my screenshot ... then you are saying that I still need a layer 3 switch/router to intervlan route even though these switches now support static routes?

I think I am not getting the limitations here of SVI. I am new to Cisco, not super new, but to this High level CCNA low level CCNP stuff.

Basically I am not worried about it much longer. If these cant intervlan route using SVI and static routes then I am not really worried about it because I am going to just hook this thing up to my ASA and trunk everything and the ASA is layer 3 so it will intervlan route all day long for me. I have a sec plus asa so it can support all the VLANs and features.

Thats pretty interesting. I retract from my previous statement then. So i just did some research on that subject and yea they have some L3 functionality.

I'm going to assume you changed the SDM Template to Lanbase routing then?

You assumed right. SDM is changed to routing yes. Intervlan routing is fail. Miserable fail. VLAN routing to a router no matter how simple is fail.

Can you post your running config?
A simple one but did you use the "ip routing" command on the switch?

It should be able to route between connected routes without you really doing anything, sending all of the data doesn't need to be in a trunk since you are passing at layer 3 (can be treated as any router to router link). You would simply put in the VLAN subnets and the IP address that the Asus can actually reach on the switch for routing that reverse path from the WAN.

Yeah I have turned off all routing but let me set a route up real fast and then we can go from there...

I will have time to build a config and upload to here later this evening. Thanks for offering help. Maybe you can correct my config and we can get this intervlan routing working right.

Oh I got another quick question: I am running two twin port Link Aggregations (Channel-Group 1 is my NAS) (Channel-Group 2 is my sig rig below) using 802.3ad.

Is there an issue where you cant intervlan channel-groups? Even though they can be assigned to a VLAN? Just want to make sure.
