Is it safe to overclock Sapphire 7970 OC to this... ? - Page 5

becasue 70c is really cold for that high of an oc on the cards i would imagine they would hit about 80 to 85 by now since the reference design hit a high of 95c if i can recall.

This is how it is, stock.

What is the max temp for this card anyway (or safe temp) ? I can't find that info on their website.

Thanks

safe temps if im corrent it's a non reference design card so you will google it but keep in mind most places taht show max temps look at the type of card if it is reference or non reference design. if it is a non reference then just minus 15 to 20c from that max temp and you will have the max temps for your card.

Thank you biggrin.gif

If you are looking to play safe with the card stick to stock voltage OC to 1125 - 1150 Mhz. If you do need the extra 10% perf and want to hit 1250+ Mhz with voltage OC make sure the case cooling is good enough. Also make sure your GPU temps are below 80C (preferably around 75) at max GPU load in games. Its better for the stability and longevity of the card to maintain lower temps thumb.gif

Thanks for reply.

I was doing some more research.

I decided to go back to 12.3 drivers, and they are much better for my card then 12.4

I am getting better results in everything with 12.3 drivers.

P9pK.png

Temps were usually around 75-78C

A\C is off (kid is sleeping here in the living room rolleyes.gif ) so, its pretty hot , like 26-27C in the living room.

I am gonna stick to this setup for now, will see how it goes in future biggrin.gif

Thanks all thumb.gif

when i purchase my 7990 i want to see how well they overclock. but i would either suggest to go water cooling or if you are an air freak then the accelero extreme ii and push it til she is almost dead. i just forgot you have a non reference design so air cooling is your only option. unless you get a universail block for the gpu.

When playing games, call of duty 3, world of tanks, etc (all on max) my temp doesnt go above 55-58C , so i think this is perfectly fine.

yes it's yet it is my 6950 unlocked and overclocked to 970/1520 @1.27v i hit 65 during gaming so that means the gpu does not have enough load to heat it up. those games are more cpu based.

Quick question (sorry I'm a noob): Do I have to flip the BIOS switch at all if I just use Trixx to clock to 1000/1450?
