have a question about AV cable and HDMI cable

Thread Starter
I go around Sam' club today and saw a Sony BDP-S185 Blu-Ray Disc Player ( link on amazon). I assume i can replace the idea of htpc because it has truHD audio and full HD with only around 50 bucks. Unfortunately, it only has one HDMI cable so I can only connect it to receiver to get audio, however, I never experience on my full HD TV before with the AV cable so my question is: can AV cable give me quality pictures as well as HDMI cable?
here the picture: 300

Anyway, would you recommend me any better HD player?

Isn't your receiver already connected to your TV?
If your receiver has HDMI inputs I assume it has HDMI output(s) too and is connected to your TV.
What receiver do you have?

And the av output on the bluray player can hardly give you SD quality video. I think it's mostly there to setup your system or for troubleshooting.

I checked your Sony DAV HDX589w and it has only 1 hdmi output, you can't connect the Sony BDP-S185 to it.
You will have to connect it to your TV.
You can connect the Sony BDP-S185 digital out coaxial to your receiver's digital in coaxial, so you can hear sound from the speakers.
But at best it would decode only DTS,DD (not sure you will have to check this out) not the trueHD formats.

I wonder if the HDMI splitter can help this problem.
