Can an am2 socket processor be used in a am3 motherboard?

Hello All, I have a question in regards to the title of the thread.
Will it be possible to use an am2 processor in an am3 motherboard.
The reason Im asking this is because I plan on getting a new motherboard for my "Slow Slow Hp Machine" which is Oem.
I wont be upgrading the processor, just the motherboard so that I can have some Bios overclocking. Its current processor is the Amd Athlon 64 x2 3800+ which is am2 socket.
I plan on getting either of these motherboards

No it won't physically fit.

AM3 processors have both a DDR3 and DDR2 memory controller and can work in AM3 boards as well as AM2+/AM2 (provided bios supports it). AM2 processors only have DDR2 memory controller and can't support DDR3.

Originally, I bought a Phenom II X2 550BE, which has a DDR2/DDR3 memory controller.
I was using this board at the time (just a few weeks ago actually
