Gtx 260 SLI vs. Gtx 580

Thread Starter
What's up guys, I was wondering how big of an performance increase is there between gtx 260 sli and gtx 580.

Also am I going to receive any bottleneck if I pair the gtx 580 with my i5 2500k?

My specs are:
i5 2500k
Patriot sector 5 16gb 1600mhz
Asrock extreme 4 gen 3 mobo

All help appreciated

The i5 2500K is very hard to bottleneck, I wouldn't worry about that even with two 580's. I would say the 580 for sure, even if it is close in performance the DX11 wins over DX10 plus you are jumping 2 generations in GPU.

Gameplay would definitely be smoother, cuz its one card vs 2 and even a GTX570 is more powerful than even 2 core 216 GTX260's.

ok, look at it this way, when i went from GTX460 1gb 850 core clock in SLI, to a single gtx570, my performance was slightly better, so, to go from 260 sli to 570 i know forsure there would be MASSIVE improvements just based on the facts as to how much better the 460s are in SLI, so a single 580 will be much improvement

What OC is your 2500K at??....Otherwise you should see a difference in performance...At least in anything less power draw and you wont have to worry about scaling/SLI issues either...

My 2500k is running at stock speeds for now.

I dont Remember exactly but this may help...

I did limited benches with a pair of BFG GTX275s (stock clocks) and one of my Galaxy GTX470s overclocked (not the best clocker), it came very close to the pair of BFGs...

My nephew felt about the same with his PC when I gave him a leftover PNY GTX470 against a Pair of BFG GTX260 Maxcores..

This was on my XFX 790i Ultra with an E8400@4050MHz

The GTX580 will be far superior against the 260s in SLI.

580 is much much faster than 2 260s.
overclock the 2500K to 4.0 GHz (which should be a breeze and requires no overvolt) and you should be bottle-neck free in most recent titles.

it's like comparing two little kiddies with chuck norris. not even close bro. AND they're two fat little kiddies that eats a lot of power but gives little work.
