If you don't touch the polarizer of a monitor will it ever go bad?

Thinking about removing the ag coating on my u2410 but I am wondering if I were to never touch or clean the polarizer, would it get any damage after a while. I see that after about a year of cleaning peoples monitors go bad. I never touch the screen of my monitors just blew off the dust.

Cleaning your monitor properly wont damage it, not cleaning it, well wont damage it either I suppose.

Then why does the polarizer degrade over time?

Willan - can you clarify what you mean when you say that the polarizer degrades over time? Quality polarizing film will normally last the useful life of of any LCD, LED or projector.

Stock polarizer film (such as that bought in bulk for manufacturing or polarizer repair) does have a shelf life and specific storage conditions for temperature and humidity. But that is only for the virgin polarizer sheets or rolls.

Other than that though, the majority of polarizer wear or damage is caused by improper cleaning, or the use of harsh chemicals during cleaning. Then of course there is the accidental types of damage such as gouges, scratches or scuffs. But in the truest sense of the world polarizer film does not "wear" out.

Our company actually does panel repolarization and repair.
