Who else misses WW2 Games?

Come on.. I cant be the only one

And yes, I know, We used to complain "Oh god, not another WW2 game" but now adays I find myself going "Oh god, Not another stupid copy/pasted USA vs Terrorists Michael Bay-style Overly Patriotic scripted cinematic piece of crap in the middle of the gorram Middle East"

The plots are predictable, the locations themselves are very meh (I really dont find the desert of the middle east a very attractive backdrop) and I'm sick of the plot always being the same in them... If we're going to have the same plot and predictability I'd rather shoot Nazis, At least then I can be in FRANCE ffs...

on the multiplayer side I miss bolt action Kar 98ks and Mosin Nagants...

FFS I preordered Sniper Elite V2 on the PC as soon as i could because i want to shoot Hitler in the face!

Yeah I'll agree with this, though I've always liked WWII games in general as I used to play RTS/TBS games based in the time quite a bit. People seem to complain that they've already fought all the battles before or something but... there's just so much more you can still do, and the settings are so varied. I mean an "original" story these days is how slightly differently colored is the Soviet Bloc equipped terrorist/rebel force you're fighting. Oh and you'll probably be going into some caves. And maybe driving across deserts.

Honestly, I never got tired of them just like I'm not tired of modern settings. I may be in the minority, but the setting really has very little meaning to me in an FPS. I want to shoot people and have fun doing it. What I'm really really sick and tired of is this idea that realism makes a better game. Again, I may be in the minority but it's boring as hell and just encourages camping. I get it, real combat is like that. It's also why real combat isn't fun. It's hell. I don't want to play a video game that is making my life hell, I want to have fun. Some jackass camping in the corner under the stairs with a SAW is a perfectly viable strategy in real life, but for a video game it's incredibly boring. Fast-paced high action shooters that are more twitch based are my kind of thing. I still play TF2 because it's fun. Even if all the hats and extra items are idiotic, the core mechanic of the game is so much more fan than camping with 2-bullet kills.

OP have you tried Red Orchestra 2, its pretty good. I'm currently playing World of Tanks a lot, it gets pretty addictive once you start getting the better tanks and it free. biggrin.gif

I miss Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, it got me into online gaming and it was one of the largest, well built, best looking, most fun games that took over 7 years of my life!

Long live WWII Games, Nick

Yeah, I think out of all of the wars WW2 is my favorite era, at least within the last few hundred years. But the Middle-East is current and more youngsters can relate to it, which is why it's overly used.

I like medievil times the most I think. But that era wouldn't make a good FPS game unless people liked running around with bows. Although I did like my Bow Assassin in Skyrim. Hmm, maybe I'm onto something? smile.gif

I enjoyed playing COD: World at War. Excellent game, both SP an MP. Loved using bolt action rifle and shoot the enemy long distance away in that map with train rail in the middle.
