HaiiYaa's Zowie Ec2 evo review - Page 15

I feel that statements about this mouse being slippery are exaggerated. Fully matte rubber mice are meant to be easier to grip. I've had normal death adders and abyssus mice and they were all slippery and frankly gross after about a few hours of use due to the plastic sides. I think many hardcore gamers prefer the fully matte finish for grippage reasons. Perhaps if your hand is dry or on the smaller side the mouse might feel "slippery" but if you are comparing it to the glossy sides of many mice, it is still inherently superior IMO.

As a further addenum of why I had to return the mouse, I used an EVO 2 because I needed a smaller mice for SC2 so I can finger touch my mouse properly. When a mouse is that small, it is my personal opinion that it NEEDS omron switches for competitive. The switches are better feeling than the Zowie AM, but it is ultimately not a good enough mouse for SC 2 IMO because of fundamental design flaws. The Zowie AM had stiff-feeling switches because it is so narrow and the mouse failed to provide a stable platform for your finger to provide enough pressure to actuate the stiffer-feeling Huano switches: the mouse would literally slide if you were pressing buttons quickly, making the mouse inaccurate for RTS high-apm usage. In addition, because the buttons are built into the body of the mouse, both keys tend to have even stiffer resistance.

The EC2 is wider and bigger than the zowie AM and the problem is not so pronounced. In many ways I feel that this mouse is perfect for most uses. However, I play SC2 and RTS's as my main games of choice and they all require high APM. The tiny differences in stiffness actuating the mouse hurts my APM significantly. In addition, the stiffness of Huano switches on a smaller size mouse means you often misclick because the pressure required to actuate them also causes the mouse to slide (though not as badly as the Zowie AM did).

Now if you have big beefy arms or don't play RTS at a high level, I doubt you will notice these things but it was enough for me to return the mouse. If Zowie ever makes mice with good omron switches I will be the first to buy them. For now I have to make do with my CM Scout Spawn which is a good mouse but has a few annoying gripes (thick, annoying cord and tiny side buttons). The main reason is that the Spawn's buttons are the silkiest smooth tactile feeling I have ever felt and perfect for high APM situations. A big reasons it the Omrons inside.

Also, can Mouse manufacturers PLEASE stop building buttons into the shell of the mouse. It saves money but it makes buttons noticeably stiffer. Also mice tend to lose tactile feeling overtime. The Death Adders and to a lesser extent MX518's/G400's all exhibited this behavior.

Like its harder to make kinzu v2 pro hit malfuncspeed than this one, really odd.

I've got the exactly the same problem here! Except the malfunction is only on soft mouse pads example what I've tried SteelSeries QCK Heavy, Roccat Taito and Zowie GR-F! My settings for my Zowie EC2 eVo is 450 DPI and 500hz settings (i have tried 1150/450DPI @ 500/1000HZ same problems).

And the mouse isn’t working like it should when there’s no "unplugging" malfunction then it just pretty random because it looks and feels like it doesn’t read well the mouse pad. Like some old laser mouse’s and different colored mouse pads years ago... Just crazy…

And the finest thing is just that Zowie AM is working for me perfectly with cloth pads and the plastic 9HD pad! And it’s working fantastic!

Anyone else have these kinda problems with zowie EC eVo series or other mosues? Can someone tell me how to solve my EC2 eVo problem?

OH! Weird thing is that even EC2 eVo and AM have the same sensor and so on. Zowie AM has in 500 Hz setting for me ~480 Hz and EC2 eVo has ~580 Hz!

I can make a video or something about the problem IF someone wants and who could help?

I've received a new Ec2 Evo back from RMA, and it has the same issues the first mouse had. The scroll wheel tilts barely when pressure is applied causing the scroll wheel to not recognize when I scroll.

Edit - Zowie has been intouch with me none stop about the issue. Great customer support.

I rebought my EC2 evo and replaced the huano switches with some Omron D2F-01F's. Description of the method is in the relevant thread but I also took some pictures of my mouse disassembled so people can see what the wheel is like.

450

450

As you can see from the middle picture, the mouse uses a ratchet wheel system that translates mouse wheel movement to the switch below the mousewheel. Most other mice I've taken apart have a tiny "donot" hole that accepts a male connector from the mouse wheel which translates movement. The ratchet system doesn't "lock" into place like the "donot" method and contributes to a wobbly mouse button. Personally, I don't mind as wobble in a mousewheel is one of the last things I care about in a mouse (Ergonomics, tracking, and button tactileness are king to me).

Either way, I feel that you should accept that the mouse wheel will have a little wobble and learn to live with it if you can. The EVO has other features which make it superior to other mice.

Kind of hard when the mouse wheel tilts and doesn't register when using the scroll wheel in game. I love the mouse other than that flaw.

If the EC2 Evo shares the identical sensor to the AM/AM-GS, then I can confirm that it performs a lot better on the Steelseries NP+ than the QcK, I can't get it to malfunction at all. Tracking is good on the goliathus but still not as good as the NP+

Jez I really wanna test this mouse out but with all the reviews on it not liking colored pads is scaring me. I have the steelseries qck Navi edition. I thought it looked cool. redface.gif

how do they perform on the little grey steelseries icons on the 4HD?

Just received a Zowie Ec1 evo.The sensor is more picky about surface than the Zowie AM' s one: one the same surface where AM tracks flawlessy the EC1 evo sometime skip.It tracks without problems is the Roccat Taito and the Zowie GF speed but has problem in a bit worn(not too much) Corepad C1 .
Tomorrow i'll make some test on the hard surface i own.I think that probably the lift off distance is even less than with the AM.

I'm in the middle of a mouse crisis so to speak, and have been testing quite a few. I was worried when reading this and some of the issues, but I'm glad to report my EC2 Evo tracks fine on my Talent White SE. I'm loving the shape and the performance at 450 dpi vs the DA:BE, Sensei is about the same.
