No signal crash

Thread Starter
Hi!

I've started getting this strange problem lately, my computer (built two months ago) started crashing with random intervals, from 1-2 days to maybe hours by first deactivating HDMI output, my monitor shows no signal. Then my 6950 fans spin at max and sounds freeze into an irritating loop, like any other freeze. Only way to recover is to hard reset.

Machine is in my sig, the mid-tower madness.

I've tried installing new drivers but no dice, when I remove the GPU and use the integrated HD 3000 in my i7 it works fine, no crashing what so ever.
I've sent the GPU to repair, but they ran heaven for 23 hours and furmark for 24 hours, no problems there. ATM I'm running furmark and prime95 for over an hour, no problems.

Other things I've tried are SFC /SCANNOW - nothing found. Virus scan - nothing either. New drivers for my P8Z68-V LX, nothing.
All fans are spinning, no smell or anything telling about overheating.

Sometimes it crashed on login screen, but now it has crashed about once a day, in game or on desktop after some surfing the net.

Any help appreciated, would love to get this running again.

EDIT: DXDIAG Is clean, my driver version is Catalyst 12.3 - 8.951-120308a-135594C-ATI (3-8-2012)

That sounds very much the same as what happens to me when i push clocks too far with not enough voltage in eyefinity, perhaps try upping the voltage slightly or reducing the clocks, Even if it's at stock, And furmark isn't what i'd use to test gpu stability imo

I haven't overclocked anything ATM, the GPU is factory overclocked my 10Mhz. I tried afterburner a long time ago, but couldn't change voltage, even with all the tweaks I could find to make it work. I'll try to reduce clocks in overdrive if it still crashes with the tip I found from another forum, I changed my HDD sleep time from 5 minutes to never. I'll see if it works.

cno, do you get a blue screen crash or just no desktop display at all?

Have you taken a look at your Windows event logs (both application and system) and see if it is logging any errors that correlate to the crash?

Still crashing, will try the overdrive trick.

I get no blue screen, the screen goes black->monitor says no signal->fans to 100%->sound crackling and finally loop like 10ms clip->hard restart

Though I had a weird thing, it crashed a second ago and when I held the power button down and realeased it just before it would shut down the computer the sound continued normally (recovered from the freeze loop) and I could listen to the rest of the song..

EDIT: Couldn't find anything from the event log frown.gif only windows whining about the hard reset...
Once after reboot I got a notification window saying that windows recovered from unrecoverable error (or so) and it was a BSOD. Too bad I can't see them if there ever is one.

Reduced clock from 810 to 750 and gave 20% more power trough CCC.

EDIT2:
Found this error in event log
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Still crashing! Trying to do some important stuff, but can't as this can crash any time...

Should I just get my PC checked by the guys who sold the parts? I think the warranty covers that...

If your gear is still under warranty then I'd have the parts guys check it out for you.

You can safely ignore that particular error in the event log under most circumstances.

CNO
After re-reading this thread with fresh eyes, at first all this still seems like it is a video related error. However, to rule out other hardware related issues, have you ran Memtest, OCCT, Prime95 or any other types of stress/stability tests to see if the machine is stable?

If not, I'd recommend running Memtest for 4-8 hours (overnight is perfect) and then run OCCT for 2 hours or so and see if you get any errors or failures.

Also, if you have a multimeter you might consider checking your 12v rail at idle and under load to make sure that it is holding up ok.

Are you running with power saving features enabled in your BIOS? Lastly, what Windows power saving plan are you running?

I experienced Black screen type crashing on my rig (Asus MB) as well . Mostly actually always at idle and the cause was low voltage @ idle. The fix is to change the LLC to a lower level. I run mine @ high but medium may suit you better. I also use offset voltage.

You also need to turn off C3 C6 states....hope this helps
