[MT] Intel Core i7-3770K Gets Overclocked to 6.9 GHz with ASRock Z77 Extreme6 - Page 3

The best thing about IB? Is that it will hopefully drop SB prices. Other than that, I see little point in most upgrading to this. iGPU is useless at this price range, PCI 3.0 is a gimmick at this point as we are not bottlenecked by PCI 2.0 yet even... Temps go up a lot when going above 1.25 or so volts... I think most would be better off with a SB chip OC'd higher than you'll likely get IB based on temps...

Thats for Desktop... hopefully mobile is a bit better looking.

Don't get me wrong, any improvement is good. But IB seems ~5% faster than SB, but can't seem to OC as high, especially on standard or affordable cooling. Heck, even cheap AIO water doesn't help as much as I thought it would... Oh well, not like Intel is sweating from the competition yet.

IB stumbling on temps and such with PD expected increases... maybe this will get AMD and Intel closer together, and create more competition... Intel seems to get lazy when they have a huge lead...

I couldn't think of one reason you wouldn't keep your 2500K. Basically if you have got a good 2500K, 2600K, or 2700K there is absolutely no reason to upgrade to Ivy. If you really wanted to upgrade, at best you could get better RAM speeds but not see massive CPU gains from upgrading. For people like me with a i7 870, Ivy makes sense. I'm not bashing anyone that still wants a proven Sandy... Sandy's are still a great CPU but it would be foolish to say Ivy is a flop. There is good enough reason to argue upgrading to Ivy if you have an older system and are dying to upgrade (again like me), especially if your not looking to break world records. Wait for more reviews, I hear 4.5Ghz is very do-able on these CPU's (on air even) and that ain't bad, lets be honest.

rolleyes.gif anyway, not hating on your post... but I agree why upgrade from sandy to ivy? unless you just need to have the latest cpu thumb.gif

Interesting that Asrock delivers so many good overclocking boards.
They have singel GPU record both with SB-E and SB

This is pretty awesone. Ivy is still a great chip. It is still better than sandy, and offers much better peripheral support. To all you people saying it's not worth an upgrade, you really should do a cost-benifit analysis on how much money you will be saving on power consumption alone. I know a lot of us on here have our PC on 24/7 (F@H), just some food for thought.

Imo, IB scales well with higher clock, the temperature poses a challenge which should set a whole new standard when it comes to conventional air cooling (bring to mind some article on OCN based on Graphene material associated with improved heat dissipation). Therefore, the Manufacturer that could tame IB should be the new king of the hill in air cooling. (I personally prefer air coolers) I see most dissatisfaction comes from that an economical, un-complicated cooling solution cannot yield the same effect as SB when used on an IB. So what? it actually can separate the $30 cooler from the $90 one, IB can now justify the reasons for the extra work and spending going into the cooling solution and actually define the market of coolers again. (Or else everyone could theoratically slaps on a Hyper 212 EVO and call it a day with SB)

It's not the cooler's fault..It's Intel's IHS's fault. You can have the best cooling and unless there's good core contact..it's not
going to keep it cool.
