We are discussing PSUs from a technical and collective experience.... stay away from junk PSUs. There are low-cost PSUs like the Corsair CX430 ($20ish with MIR) with are fine. Then there are junk PSUs that have 500w labels and are only capable of 300w while being unstable.
Once again...

Still think the h61 would suffice -
The 2500k would be fun but frankly wont need to overclock or bother risking it on a work machine... PLUS then I would want a good cooler- then 2400 @ microcenter only costs 150 smile.gif I can use the stock cooler... save 50 bucks there too.
Also wont need the dvd burner- i got dvd drives all over the place smile.gif...
Microcenter's prices are WAY better than newegg... the p8z68-m pro is like 130 something i think on Newegg... nice spot.

Microcenters pricing on their cpus and motherboards are very good. Their Ram and PSU pricing is worse. Lots of quality PSU's in the 50 and under range on newegg, especially AMIR. Not the case @ microcenter. thumb.gif

im not good at building computers but i have 1 advice for you

Utilize your budget well.

dont be shy to use 98% of the allowed budget, all you really need to do it build a really reliable PC, then show your boss how good this PC is with specific tasks that you perform at work

im sure he would be more pleased this way than having you tell him that you saved him $100 just to build the same crap almost everyone else has in the workplace, especially after you told him building computers is your hobby

let your talents in the field shine and maybe he will like you enough to let you stick around for longer than you should (e.g. you mess up things at work, etc)

Microcenter still has a core i5-2500k Cpu and a Motherboard bundle for $50 off if u get both. You might as well go for a Atx build with a 2500k which has integrated graphics. Mid tower case like a good Haf 912 @ Microcenter is now 49.99....then again these are all the prices i am listing from my local Microcenter here in NY.

I take my comment about haf 912 case back. I own this case and its a bit heavy/bulky, probably not ideal for office use.

Well then nothing is stopping him from using wattage higher than advertised. Also my server runs 24/7 and has been doing so for 5 years and my main rig is sometimes left on for weeks at a time. When modding i mistakenly shorted out the +12v and ground and the psu is still running fine. im not saying that a cheap one is the way to go but if you buy one and have a lot of wattage headroom you should be fine. Anyway if your boss doesn't know much you could make up something like you type too fast which is why it died!!!! biggrin.gif

OCZ Technology
ModXStream Pro 500 Watt ATX EPS12V Modular Power Supply
80+ Certified and Modular for $45 AMIR

I would seriously consider this one, since efficiency is far higher here. If you pay the power bills this will make a difference. That Antec Basiq is a fairly old design now, and wont blow up on you or anything, but there are better options. This will also make for a cleaner build in that Matx case which personally i think is work the $5 all by itself.

Ok, there is a difference between "branded inexpensive PSU that has professional reviews by third parties" (which is actually what were recommending) and "cheapo no name PSU with absolute lies about power delivery, efficiency and build construction"

That diablotech is the latter.

On second thought instead of that antec basiq i would consider the Thermaltake TR2 as the absolute lowest budget PSU option @ your microcenter, since its recommended in our FAQ, you have the opportunity to save another $10 over the basiq also with MIR

I'd still go with the modxtreme pro for $45 amir myself.

Gigabyte
GA-H61M-DS2 LGA 1155 H61 mATX Intel Motherboard
$45 amir

Intel
Core i5 2400 LGA 1155 Boxed Processor
$150

OCZ Technology
ModXStream Pro 500 Watt ATX EPS12V Modular Power Supply
$45 amir

Fractal 1000 $35

$275

I wouldn't be surprised if you got to pocket the MIR's also since your donating ram and CD burners to this build, not to mention actually doing the footwork and putting it together. Just be forthcoming about them, sounds like your boss is a pretty good guy and would go for this sort of thing. thumb.gif
