Time spent driving to and from microcenter, time spent inside microcenter, time spent on OCN researching decent components (like no diablotech), time spent unboxing, time spent installing components and cable managing, can all be billed towards this. Windows and drivers and ninite.com

Sounds like an OK way to make a buck to me. thumb.gif

If I had an employee making 60k a year, I'd expect 4 very crucial things if I had given a task to build a computer.

-The computer looks professional inside and out. (AKA, that case is un-acceptable to have in an office were you're trying to show off your hardware capabilities. Or in an office where such figures are made to begin with))
-It is energy efficient, at the same time maintains acceptable performance.
-It won't start on fire rolleyes.gif
-Inaudible.

I love you man, but I feel like you're not looking at this as an excellent employment opportunity, or in a professional manner.

Want your boss to say "cool" or "dayumm"?

You've basically been set-up for the ultimate test.

That I have to agree with. I have always thought BitFenix make cases that ain't flashy, but are just pure quality. When I build my brothers machine, it was more important to have LEDs than quality. He now has a no-name case with 1 80mm fan for cooling, and he loves it. With Web-Dev i cannot see it being to resource heavy, unlike 3d modelling ect (I could be wrong of course), so I wouldn't bling out on the case, but don't but too cheap, you might kick it after all.

As this is in a work environment, keep in mind how other have to put up with it, and how they might have to deal with it. However, if it stops being enjoyable, stop. You are thinking too hard.

CPU: Intel i5 2400

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2

Case. What the hell, it's your goddamn boss; get a really sick case, don't just look at those Diablotek pieces of crap. I'd personally go with Lian Li, it just has PROFESSIONAL BADASS WITH TONS OF MONEY written all over the place and that's what a boss wants.
- Fractal Design Arc Mini
- Fractal Design Define Mini
- Lian Li PC-V351B
- Lian Li PC-A04B

PSU: Antec EA-380D

CPU cooler? Not really needed, but it'll make the system cooler and quieter.
CM Hyper 212+

Oh and, really, a random recycled hard drive? What's even the point of getting an i5 if you're just going to slow everything down with what I suppose it's a 5400rpm drive? Use that for storage.
Let's get some serious stuff for the actuall boot drive - it's your boss after all. Crucial M4 64gb SSD

if i were you, i will spend all that 500, and i'll chip in some more if it's not enough, just to impress my boss.
he will be happier having an awesome machine than saving 100 dollars.
well, that's just me.
