But it's 14C hotter in tweaktown confused.gif

How is the 3570K so much cooler than the 3770K then? As far as I know they're the same chip minus some L cache. Also need to keep in mind that 4.7 IB = 4.9 SB.

i7s always run hotter due to hyperthreading.

The problem isn't IB the problem is that people overestimate Sandy and every time they talk about how hot Ivy runs they forget that most Sandy Bridge chips when pushed to 4.9+ghz will also run extremely hot. A chip that can hit 5ghz is a one in ten type thing.
Now 6 months ago I was hoping that Ivy would bring more OC headroom like everyone else. Obviously it didn't but it doesn't really look like OC headroom is actually reduced at all. Until these chips get in people's hands we're not going to know if golden chips can get up to 5ghz or even if 4.5 is the average like it was with SB.

Ah my bad, i picked 5 reviews from those listed and saw nothing...only the tweaktown one that was posted earlier showing 3770K @ 4.6 to be as hot as a 2600K @ 5.2 >.<

2600k is 14C colder than 3770k under load (all stock):

3820 here I come thumb.gif

I like all the advantages that the x79 platform has to offer , plus there will be an upgrade path to IB-E at some point... lets hope they will find a way to keep temp under control when overclocked.

Doesn't look terrible, shame the IPC isn't much higher.  Looks like me and the 2600K will be holding out for a bit even on the enthusiast side of things.  That really goes to show how good the SB tech was when it came out.

Oh well at least performance didn't go down!

Just a quick newbie question:

1) Which one faster clock by clock Sandy Bridge @4.5 Ghz (Lower Temp) vs Ivy Bridge @4.5Ghz (Higher Temp) if faster by how much %?

2) will PCI-E 3.0 in Ivy Bride make my Crossfire 7970 faster in Z77 (I'll not rely on HD4000 Since I have Cross 7970;))?

Please help me to answer this question correctly, because these two question will affect my decision.. Thank you very much.

Considering that's the way things used to be before the introduction of P4, it's not a big deal. No need for the paranoia. The issue is the potential of cracking the die when seating a cooler. We're overclockers, taking risks and voiding warranties for small gains is what we do.

Don't like it? You're on the wrong site then, bud.

Anyways, Ivy Bridge is no different than from what the previews and leaks were painting. Hopefully it gets better as the process matures, and I hope they master the 22nm process by the time Haswell goes into production. A new stepping would be cool, if that ends up being the solution to the problem.

PCI-E 3.0 will be faster if you play at Eyefinity Resolutions, 2560 x 1600 and under you will be fine.
~ 4% Faster Clock per Clock which in reality translates to nothing. I am personally going to pick up a Z77 MB for now and keep my 2500K. Upgrade if they improve IVY with a new reversion.
