A request to Ivy Bridge owners/testers out there.

So the NDA is lifted and a flood of reviews have come to light in the past hour. Much has been confirmed about the overclocking potential but, as it was expected, the required voltage to reach certain clocks varies a lot from chip to chip, some reach up to 4.9 ghz under 1.3v while others need considerably more.
What I haven't seen in all reviews I've read was an offset OC, while the temps under load are going to be pretty much the same as fixed voltage numbers, it seems to me having the vcore drop while idling would make for a better 24/7 overclock (and for some reason my rig requires less voltages under offset to be stable - can't really explain that one).
So to the ones with one of these chips in hand, have you tried offset? Is it not worth it? I know it requires more fine tuning to get it running properly but I am a fan of it and was wondering how it's working out in IB.

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

okay here is teh deal, at idle even at the tip top voltages idle is like 30-50C lower than load, so it really doesn't matter to use offset other than to put your mind at ease. Also ivy runs hot, but doesn't churn out heat, does that make sense?

From the statement in bold, and other things I've seen, I gather that the problem with IB temps aren't really how much heat it produces but more of a lack of a better way to dissipate the heat.
I was just curious to see how they would OC in offset, found it odd cuz I haven't seen any info out and was wondering if there was trouble in that front or it wasn't something worth mentioning, thanks for the explanation Sin.
