Your best bet is to perform a low level format of the drive.

Look around on the western digital site for the ATA Low Level format utility.

I cannot recall if you can use other manufactures disk utilities on other brands of drives.

Go to Computer Management, then under Storage click on Disk Management. Scroll down to locate the WD-320 (physical disk). If you do not see it, select rescan disks from the action menu.

Right-click in each partition and select DELETE VOLUME for each partition. Right-click in the newly blank area where the partitions from previous (now unallocated) and select NEW SIMPLE VOLUME. Once finished, Windows Explorer will recognize the volume.

the OP wasn't completely clear about how the drives are locked/not showing up. if the drives have been locked with a ATA password, it is fairly complicated to unlock them. if that is the case, then here is some info to get you started.
Quote:
A disk can be locked in two modes: High security mode or Maximum security mode. Bit 8 in word 128 of the IDENTIFY response shows which mode the disk is in: 0 = High, 1 = Maximum.

In High security mode, the disk can be unlocked with either the User or Master password, using the "SECURITY UNLOCK DEVICE" ATA command. There is an attempt limit, normally set to 5, after which the disk must be power cycled or hard-reset before unlocking can be attempted again. Also in High security mode the SECURITY ERASE UNIT command can be used with either the User or Master password.

In Maximum security mode, the disk can be unlocked only with the User password. If the User password is not available, the only remaining way to get at least the bare hardware back to a usable state is to issue the SECURITY ERASE PREPARE command, immediately followed by SECURITY ERASE UNIT. In Maximum security mode the SECURITY ERASE UNIT command requires the Master password and will completely erase all data on the disk. The operation is slow, it may take longer than half an hour or more, depending on the size of the disk. (Word 89 in the IDENTIFY response indicates how long the operation will take.)

there are instructions here that you can follow to discover the master password, and unlock the drives.
more info here and here.
