asus xonar stx or other

hi, looking at replacing my current sound card (creative x-fi xtreme gamer, which Ive had for over 5 years, i think), as Ive just recently bought, corsair sp2500 speakers/sub-woofer set. Which are bleeming awesome. Anyway, the cards Ive been looking at are:

asus xonar stx
asus xonar dx
asus d2x

the asus xonar stx is at the top of my list, since i figure if am gonna buy a new card, i would rather spend the cash on a card which i wouldn't have to replace for a good long time if ever.

i also use a pair of sennheiser hd 558 headphones much of the time when am on my computer.
i would be primarily be using the card for gaming - secondly, music/watching movies.

i have read that the asus xonar stx can have some slight issues with gaming, can anyone confirm or reject this problem.

any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Well, first question I have is do you need a headphone amp?

I have the STX and I have no problems with it on games, well, maybe that's because I don't use GX mode (positional audio, I think). The Xonar series of cards are fantastic for music and are also excellent headphone amps, however, it depends on what your preferrence is. If you're giddy about positional audio then creative cards are more suited to your needs. Maybe you could get a Creative Titanium Fatal1ty Pro or Titanium HD, if you have the cash. Also take note that the Xonar's excellence in delivering sound when it comes to music won't really be noticeable unless you have a good pair of cans or speakers such as the Denon AH-D2000 Headphones.

Between the Xonars people say that the ST is better than the STX because it has some sort of anti-static chip or something. Further, the ST can be combined with the Asus h6 (if you can find one).

Thanks for the replies guys. The headphones do come into their own when they are connected to an amp, but still sound good, to me, without. I suppose what am really after is a soundcard that's considered great for gaming and also listening to music and watching movies. I'll check out the creative cards. Are there any other cards I should also consider looking at.
