sg08 vs Lian-Li PC-Q08

So I plan on doing a build when the asus p8z77-i deluxe comes out. Will be using a 2600k more then likely to try to hit 5.0, heard they are easier to cool and easier to push to the 5 flat i want. This is a gaming machine and will be replacing my underachiver sig rig. the wife says the giant thing has to go. I will be putting a ssd into this machine, 16 gigs of ram, and 1 mech drive at the minimum. not sure on what video card i will get yet but it will be atleast a 7850 or the nvid equal. I know the lian li is bigger and has more space. but having spots for 6 hard drives when i will only have 4 sata ports isnt really a selling point for me. I believe the sg08 is smaller. I can not see either of these in person so i really am looking for advice and information from people that have dealt with these cases.

SG08 is smaller but slightly heavier than the PC-Q08.

Go with the SG08, it'll be better for your needs. I'd do a large write-up but I am short on time today sorry. tongue.gif

You have to think about a cooler too. Most people (me included) recommend using an AIO with the case. AXP-140 will not fit on the Asus board and there hasn't been enough testing to find out what works. An AIO will be fine for the build. H60 would be best.

I hope by 16GB you mean 2x8GB because all mITX boards only have 2 slots for ram.

Everything else looks fine. Don't worry about a PSU since the SG08 is powerful enough for a 590/6990

You already did a writeup armourcore...at least I feel that the Q18 is very comparable to the Q08 except the Q08 can accommodate a taller heatsink.

If you wanted to do a simple size comparison, you can simply plot the dimensions here :

I did one for the SG08 and the Q18 to help me decide:

Im doing a build with the Q08 with a corsair h60 as a cooler. One thing about the Q08 is that the power supply hangs over the motherboard so you have to watch for clearance.

I am planning on putting the radiator on the top 120mm location there is only 1mm space between the PSU and fan with radiator.

Still have yet to build my rig tho, waiting on Ivy Bridge

I'm choosing between sg08 and PC-Q08 too. Doesn't sg08 have problems with hdd cooling? For me it seems like in sg08 hdds do not get any air at all. Is it possible to find some hdds that do not need active cooling?

It will be my first build and I want to make it really powerfull. Something like this:
Asus p8z77-i
3770K
gtx 690

Is sg08-600w enough for such build?

you realize the SG08 has a 180mm fan that is less then 1 inch away from the HDD right? biggrin.gif airflow in a case that small tend to have alot of turbulence and that air gets bounced around inside the case pretty good. that turbulence tend to cool everything in the case down pretty good.

+1 for the SG08.

Also, look into the SG05.
You can fit a Corsair H80 and a 680 in there with not too many problems.
Seems like it would meet your needs.
It's marginally smaller.
Up to you whether or not it's worth it.
