Need a Specific Type of GPU

Thread Starter
I'm looking at reducing the amount of power my CPU draws (thinking of going with a 2100t, 35W TDP vs 65W TDP of my current 2100), but i don't want to increase my power usage from switching to a better gpu that the 2100t's hd1000.

So i need a gpu that can match these requirements:

  • run madVR without coming to a stop while playing high bitrate 1080p h.264 material
  • very low power usage
  • MUST BITSREAM HD-audio! (i.e. dts-hd, dolby truhd, etc)
  • must not break the bank, i need it to be as low priced as possible.

thanks for any input!

I have never tried this on a cpu with integrated graphics, but it might be worth a try.
You could try underclocking your cpu. From what I can tell the main difference between the 2100 and the 2100t is the clock speed.
I think if you were to underclock your cpu to a point where it has just enough power to do what you need it to you could probably save some power and money. After lowering the frequency you can drop the voltage on the processor as low as it goes while still being stable.
The problems I can think of right now are that the processor might be locked so you can’t change the frequency, multipliers, and/or voltage and the effect and effect underclock might have on the graphics in the chip.
I have never tried underclocking a chip with integrated graphics, but if the clock speed of the graphics is linked to the rest of the processor then you might have problems with the graphics being to slow (if this happens you could maybe just get a dedicated graphics card).

If I understand you correctly the graphics built into your processor (I think its HD 2000) are currently enough, you just want to find something that is equivalent and doesn’t use much power.
Also are you able to change the clock speed and voltage on your processor?

i've tried messing with voltage, and it was a no-go for some reason (nothing stuck, evne though the bios said it had changed/0 and the cpu is locked so i can't change the freq. i might wait until the IB i3's release, so i can get an hd4000 gpu while not changing my current tdp.
