Need suggestions for my build.

Thread Starter
So here's my build, I'm making it for my brother. Need a few suggestions in some parts.

I already have a case for this build. So here's the rest of it.

Cpu: 2500k (Should I wait for ivy bridge? I think a 2500k will do, especially since ivy bridge will make it cheaper)

Cpu Cooler: Corsair's H80

Gpu: A 580 gtx (What would be a better choice within a range of 30$ of the 580's price?)

Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (I might pick g.skill instead.)
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333551727&sr=8-1
It's almost 60$. What else should I go with?

Soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD (Any thoughts here?)

Powersupply: Corsair HX Professional Series 750 (Anything else, just as good and cheaper? I'd prefer it to be modular)

SSD: Crucial 64 GB (What do you think?)

HDD's are much more expensive then they were after the floods, so that's extremely unfortunate. I'm getting 1tb of WD caviar black and 2tb of green for storage.

Is there anything else that I missed? Thanks in advance.

Personally i'm not very sold on sound cards and what they bring to the table. seems like a tiny performance boost for a lot of money. That money would be much better spent on cpu/gpu.

Give us a price, uses (is he a gamer or a serious gamer?), and what you don't need?

Honestly, if you have an old CD drive from your last build or something, recycle that. I don't have a CD drive in mine, waiting for Blu-ray, but I never need a CD drive (I use Steam and installed Windows with a USB drive). Does he need a monitor? Keyboard, mouse? Headset, speakers?

Also, do you live near a Fry's?

A sound card is great for music, but you are going to need good quality headphones too.

But like the previous poster asked, what is the budget? And is there really any need for 3TB of storage?

Nebster, USA?

Anyways, what does he play? 580's are getting cheaper but a 7850 (Only $250) will likely have all the firepower needed.

A 750w for a single 580 is too much, but does leave you the ability to add a 2nd 580.

Check out some used cards on the OCN marketplace, save good money.. all of these are under warranty, The MSI cards only require the S/N so you won't need the sellers assistance if ever needed to RMA.

_s3v3n_'s GTX 580 w/ Accelero negotiable price.. The Accelero is amazing. Very quiet and effective cooler.

dmreeves's ASUS ENGTX 580 DCII One of the many who upgraded to a 680, Can get 580's cheap used atm.

Majin SSJ Eric's MSI GTX 580 Lightning The Lightnings..drool.gif love my Xtreme editons.

IF you do want a 750w for whatever reason, the Seasonic X 750 for $120 w/ Promo is a GREAT deal.

- Crucial M4 64 GB is a great choice, OS and a couple games probably. Perfect.

- Yeah do you really need 3TB of space? Esp w/ price of HDD's ?

- A sound card IMO is best if you use a headset, or are an absolute audiophile. I'd land the Xonar DG , pretty good for a headset. I have one I'm looking to sell, that one on newegg after MIR + Shipping is $25. If you are interested in one for a little less, PM me.

- Yes just go with the 2500k. Are you near a Microcenter? The 2500k is $200 flat on ncix.us Prob back to $220 in a couple days, land it!

fixed.
I DO totally agree with what is italicized.

Yes the quality will be better, but performance not so much. I should have asked on what the purpose of the rig is going to be and if your brother is an audiophile.

Yes, unless he is a person that is an audiophile and cares about the quality of sound coming out of his computer, on board is just fine.

I don't live in the USA and I can't order from Newegg. frown.gif

And yeah, he's a gamer. A 750watt psu is for future sli. I'm probably going to relook what graphics card to pick for him, he does want to max most games though. Yeah, 3TB is necessarily.

Also, I forgot to mention the motherboard? What should I go with if that was my build? I do plan on overclocking and need atleast 3 pcie slots. What would be a good atx motherboard? Thanks again guys.
